We had the good fortune of connecting with Briana Cusimano DiCenso and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Briana, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
If I’m being honest, taking risks wasn’t something that came naturally to me. It took a while for me to realize that while I felt comfortable where I was personally and professionally, everything was always just good and never GREAT. Keeping myself in the same routine, the same mindset with the same energy was only holding me back from growing and blooming the full potential I actually had.

My first major leap into risk-taking was 2020 – when the pandemic hit. I had been laid off from my job, my husband had been away for military training for four months and I was stuck 800 miles away from any family and friends. It marked one of the scariest moments I’ve lived thus far, and yet, one of the most rewarding. The discomfort I was put in during this time pushed me towards an opportunity I had always set out to do, but never put any mind to. That’s what’s known today as September Threads!

Putting myself in this new situation and taking the risk to start a business at such an unpredictable time was not easy. However, it allowed me to break my own mold, making me more confident and stronger, and allowing me to reach more personal and professional goals.

With that said, risk-taking has helped me learn that you can either be comfortable and stagnate, or become uncomfortable, stretch your potential, and grow.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
September Threads’ mission is to provide a destination for of-the-moment styles that evoke confidence, independence, and inspiration for individuals worldwide – without having to pay a large price tag. We’re all about taking a simple white tank and biker shorts you wore to lounge in during the day and evolving it into an outfit for a night out with your friends.

As I quickly mentioned earlier, it’s taken some time for me to build my own confidence and, I’m still on the road to learning how to let it fully bloom. I’ve also dealt with imposter syndrome and had based a lot of my successes on others. If growing my business has taught me anything, it’s that sometimes I need to take a step back, and reflect on my accomplishments and how I was able to achieve them with my own knowledge, hard work, and preparation.

September Threads has a long way to go, but the brand is growing by the minute. I’m most excited about the expansion of our categories this year and can’t wait to share more about the exclusive designs we will be producing!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d most definitely have to stay at my new favorite hotel, the Kimpton Sylvan Hotel in Buckhead. The decor and aesthetic are an absolute dream.

We’d start our days with coffee, mimosas, and good breakfast/brunch food at Murphy’s, Cafe Intermezzo or Southern Gentleman.

Then, we would explore the city taking a walk through Piedmont, visiting the whales at the Georgia Aquarium, shopping at Ponce City Market, playing mini-golf at The Roof, and hanging out at Hotel Clemont,

We’d then head to dinner reservations at The Iberian Pig, Storico Fresco or St. Cecilia.

And, end one of the nights at St. Julep which also happens to be on the roof of the Kimpton Sylvan.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, my parents and husband. My parents come from humble beginnings, both financially and in terms of quality education. After leaving the nest, they both sought schooling that would better their knowledge in each of their fields. I grew up watching them leave early for work and get back home just in time for dinner and bed, Monday through Friday. However, their hustle and ambition have driven them to major success. They serve as my inspiration and give me the courage to battle any obstacles I may come across.

My husband has also been my backbone. He reminds me each and every day that he’s my number one supporter and continuously motivates me to take chances and keep working towards my goals.
