We had the good fortune of connecting with Bria Waldron and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bria, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I first started Rude Gyal’s Kitchen in college it was just to make money after quitting my job that I hated. I wanted income when I wanted it and I hated working on another person’s time. Cooking was also a passion of mine and I used to jokingly tell my father that we should open a restaurant when I was younger not knowing that I was foreshadowing a career path for myself.

What should our readers know about your business?
I actually have two business. One is Rude Gyal’s Kitchen, a Caribbean catering company. We provide authentic Caribbean cuisine where recipes are customized in house. Even thought this is year five in business, I still consider Rude Gyal’s Kitchen as a start up company as we are nowhere near our business goals. Running a business is hard, especially when working a regular job. It is easy to get discouraged when you see someone in your same field that is ten steps ahead of you but I’ve learned to not compare myself to others; I am going at my own pace.

My second business is with my best friend, Bleu Fleures & Co which is a mini handbag and accessory. We are both people that love to shop and love handbags so we’ve decided to take that jump. We launched Bleu Fleures & Co in August of 2020.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My friends and I love to eat and party. I would definitely plan a brunch date and then at night we would go to the club. We love trying different restaurants and it means the most to me because it gives me the opportunity to get ideas for meals that I can add to my menu for Rude Gyal’s Kitchen. My friends and I are also very adventurous; We love doing things outside of the box.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my friends and family for also being supportive.
