We had the good fortune of connecting with Bri Rucker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bri, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
As a avid fan of anime, I was always looking for the next cutest piece of merch and while I love a good graphic Tee and hoodie, I wanted something more. As a plus size girl, its hard to find things in our size that fit the way we want it to.
Through DokiDoki Threads, we aim to give other bigger bodied women access to amazingly dope anime fashion that showcases our respective fandoms in a way other brands may not be able to offer at this time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hey guys! My name is Bri and I also am known as “Lady Hoekage” in the “blerd” community and the owner of the Otaku craft boutique Wickedly Blerdy! Those of you that have been with me for a while know that I have been invested in creating an Exclusively Plus Size line of anime merch for the past year and I finally decided to use my years of experience as a crafter and step in to the world of design with DokiDoki Threads!

We’re all about otaku culture, but we’re also all about inclusiveness. We want everyone who wears our pieces to ooze confidence and find a new type of love and acceptance of the bodies they live in.

My goal for DDT is to one day reach the level of becoming officially licensed to create merch for our favorite anime. Anime and Otaku culture has been a passion of mine for years so getting to create clothing for bigger bodies like mine, inspired by something I’m passionate about would literally be me living the dream!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, Korean BBQ is ALWAYS a move, so that would always be something I’d suggest! We also have an amazing shofuso garden that would be great for a photo opp or just relaxing and chilling around nature. As nerds of a father we’d obviously have to hit up an arcade or two as well!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Obviously anyone who has supported me so far, my fellow small business fashionistas who guided me and helped when I was stuck and most importantly anyone who believes in our mission and what we’re trying to bring to the Otaku community!
