We had the good fortune of connecting with Brett Loftis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brett, what’s your definition for success?
I define success as striving to be the absolute best that I can be on a daily basis. I strive to be the greatest broadcaster of all-time, as I told you guys in my last interview. Even though I still strive for that, I am trying to become the best I can be on a daily basis. More times than not as human beings, we fail others and ourselves everyday. Yet, having that motivation and want to can define your daily success. At the end of the day, if you are happy with your day, then that is all that matters. Every time I put a headset on, I try to broadcast with the same energy, tenacity and knowledge that I do every broadcast. However, the most important thing that I do after every broadcast is that I watch them back to see what I did good and most importantly, what I can improve on. When you lay your head on your pillow every night, make sure you that you are happy with your day and that you have improved from yesterday.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a one of three Piedmont play-by-play broadcasters for Lions athletics. I am now in my second season as a play-by-play broadcaster, and I have to say this is my favorite job I have had to this point. As a student still at Piedmont myself, I have to balance my work and course load, but I enjoy it so much. I think what separates me so much is that I bring a certain energy, creativity and passion while on-air. I have studied many different broadcasters throughout my lifetime, primarily baseball broadcasters, and I have tried to take a plethora of characteristics to make myself standout and mold my own play-by-play personality. I feel like I got to where I was at today by hard work. Coming into Piedmont, I did not know anyone on the campus, so I had to make connections and learn the people I was working with. Sometimes, the biggest challenge to overcome is to gain the trust and respect from your superiors. I felt like I was able to do this at Piedmont, and this has helped me get to the point where I am at today. I want the world to know that I try to be one of the hardest working broadcasters in athletics. I want to be the best, and I want the call the biggest games, names and events. I try to bring the game to the viewers in a way that they can both enjoy the action and the commentary. I also want to bring enthusiasm that not a lot of broadcasters bring. I want it to be fun for everyone. I want the world to know that play-by-play broadcasting gives me a sense of joy that not too many things do in life. I want to do this for the rest of my life, and I want to be the very best. I am currently looking at my options beyond college, but I am enjoying my time at Piedmont right now.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone was visiting Atlanta for their first time, we would have to hit all of the major stadiums and arenas in Atlanta, I would have to take them to a Braves game, Hawks game and a Falcons game. We would have to drink a lot of Coca-Cola because as I tell my parents all the time, Coca-Cola just hits differently in Atlanta. As a South Carolinian, we would have to go visit the Georgia Aquarium and compare it to the marine life of that in South Carolina. I think we could also just take a day and just explore Centennial Olympic Park, as this is probably my favorite place in the city. I would also like to take a day and go the College Football Hall of Fame. If we were staying downtown, my hotel of choice is the Omni, as it my favorite place to stay in the entire world. If we had time, I would love to make the drive up to Northeast Georgia and introduce them to all of the great people of Demorest, GA and Piedmont College. The beautiful mountains and being out of the city scene, would give us a day to relax and see some different scenes of the great state of Georgia.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Danielle Percival, Joe Garwood and Troy Weiman. Percival is the Sports Information Director as Piedmont, as Garwood and Weiman are her assistants. They have meant so much to me and my development thus far in my relatively young career. Percival has given me this opportunity to get on a microphone and help bring Piedmont Athletics to people all over the country. I have reached so many different people because of the opportunity that Percival and her staff gave me. I will forever be grateful for them, and I am so happy that I can continue to work for the best SID in Division-III athletics.
