Meet Brenda Domingo | Wedding Planner & Coordinator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenda Domingo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brenda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process mainly developed from my Mom and her business. My mother developed her own wedding dress business, where her customers wanted a dress that sung to their moment on their wedding day. Her former clients were pleased and always spoke highly of her artistry as well as how it made their wedding such a special day, During that time I started hosting and coordinating wedding showers with the thought in mind to expound on their vision and make their moments memorable. Unfortunately my mother passed away suddenly in 2003 and since then I felt it has been my mission to carry on her legacy of favoring the moments of those who have the vision yet need help with the execution of their special day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Aside from being a Wedding Planner part time, I am a Quality Engineer full time for an aerospace company. It is rather surreal when I look at all my accomplishments but I always have to fall back on my Mom who has heavenly been my rock and support through it all being a single mother as well. I have always been very good in math and try to research and determine the root cause of any issue – that is the core of what I do as a quality engineer yet I also have been able to apply that practice to everyday life. I face challenges daily being a single mom and a woman of color in a predominantly male environment. Yet it has also fueled me to still do what I know is needed to solve engineering problems – sometimes the end result speaks volumes. It is very easy for me to communicate on all levels, yet the lesson I’ve learned is to stand back and determine what the low hanging fruit is and concentrate on those achievable items first, ; in the process you gain their trust. Then once that is achieved and seen you can then concentrate on those challenging tasks together as a team. I apply this concept to my business as well.
What I want the world to know about my brand is that I started my business after the passing of my mother. I was laid off from my job and and my kids and I were homeless and in a shelter. That was one of the lowest times in our lives and it took a lot within me to start working hard on my business given the circumstances. My objective was to help my clients favor their moment despite the obstacles – finances, family situations or circumstances.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend came to visit the area, I’d first like to help them unwind and clear their mind and take them to the Buckhead Spa, which is very time accommodating, has natural skin remedies and has a very relaxing ambiance. I’d then go to Atlantic Station to do some browsing and shopping;maybe get out nails done at the Lush Nail Bar which was a great experience for my daughter and I last year. Lastly I’d love to do Tea Around Town – loved their service and treats. I’d also like for us to eat at the following places as I have found their food to be absolutely amazing – Lure, Atlanta Breakfast Club, Fishmonger and Fogo de Chao Brazilian Steakhouse.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this to my mother Ligia for planting the seed in my heart and being my sole supporter and encouragement. I’d also like to thank my children, Jasana, Aiyanna and Brandon for helping me though this journey that sometimes gets rough but I see my mother in each of them and all of those aspects keeps me going through the good and bad times.
