We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenda Banks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brenda, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Growing up I faced a lot of adversities, stemming from physical as well as sexual abuse. I remained silence for a long time before finding my voice. When I found my voice, I found strength and courage. This new found strength and courage evolved into something bigger than me, and needed to be shared with young women who was or had experienced similar life experiences as myself. Therefore Sisters Motivating And Restoring Together (S.M.A.R.T) was created. S.M.A.R.T give young women a safe haven and environment to find their strength. We focus on self love, self worth as well as the basic necessities, needed for everyday life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
A few things that separate smart from others are, we can relate to our passion,. We have been through a lot of what these young women are or has gone through. Aside of being able to relate we absolutely love what we do and care for the young ladies that are a part of our organization, as well as the community as a whole. Our hard work and commitment to our passion keeps this organization growing. I can’t say this journey has been easy, but I will say it’s been worth it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I hands down love Atlanta night life and it different shopping district as well as it’s verity of food.. When my bestie come to Atlanta we are sure to get out, but one of the places I love the most is Hungry AF.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout my bestie Tabithia Smith, for cofounding S..M.A.R..T with me, and having the same passion and dedication to make this non-profit be what it is today. I would also like to thank her for continuing to believe in me as we transitioned here to Ga.. I would also like to thank Shanise Williams for partnering with me here in GA and helping keep S.M.A.R.T alive. I can’t forget our volunteers, this organization would definitely not be what is today without our volunteers.
