We had the good fortune of connecting with Brèanna Foreman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brèanna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, two things. 1. I feel like entrepreneurship is partly in my DNA. I come from a family, where on both sides, there are entrepreneurs and hard workers who figured it out to provide for themselves and their families, while helping others in some way. 2. Throughout my twenties, I have observed women who are entrepreneurs absolutely dominate their field or industry in their own way. Some have accomplished this while building a family and/or working a 9-5. It’s very inspiring.
With starting a business, you need to fulfill a need or a gap within your industry, much like research. You need to provide services or goods that people will find value in and I believe that I am going to provide exactly that. I’m going to at least try versus having regrets about “what if”.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am in the early stages of my post-Masters career. I attended Old Dominion University where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Services with a double-minor in Health and Wellness, and Exercise Science in 2018. Most of my background has been in the realm of health and wellness, higher education, and non-profits. In May 2022, I earned a Master of Public Health from the University of Mississippi.

Public Health is a very broad career field, however at the core it is focused on the promotion, prevention, and education of health across communities and individuals. I currently work full-time in public health research, in addition to a few things I do on the side in both fitness and research. Being a former certified group exercise instructor and currently a certified personal trainer with 7 years of experience in the fitness space, I am in the midst blending my passion for public health and fitness into a business model.

I think what sets me apart from others is my drive to learn more, to grow, and to help others. I am in a space that I am passionate about so the perseverance comes naturally, even in the most challenging circumstances. I am most proud of both my education and my experiences. I pursued Public Health because there are many health disparities and challenges that predominantly impact black and brown communities. I am hoping to make a difference through healthy lifestyle programs while increasing access to resources.

A lesson I’ve learned along the way is that everything matters. The odd jobs. The big jobs. The unpaid internships. The volunteer roles. Document your experiences and go above and beyond. Make connections and relationships with people. Find and follow people who motivate you for the right reasons. I have sought out a lot of additional experiences and trainings in most of the roles I’ve held to mold myself into the professional I know I want and need to be. When it comes to my brand and story, I want people to know that I am in this space to improve the health and well-being because I have witnessed these challenges and disparities first hand. However, I have also witnessed the success of what happens when someone or a community are equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to improve their health.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would more than likely end up doing a workout or a class somewhere (like F45, Yoga, or Pilates), followed by stopping at a local coffee shop (Chattahoochee Coffee, Day Dreamer, Apotheos, Jittery Joe’s, Muchachos, Wave3, The Daily, Cultivate). We would maybe go to a farmer’s market, local mall or a retail shopping center with a TjMaxx, Home Goods, Target, etc. I like the Interlock, Ponce, Inman Park, Midtown, and Reynoldstown areas.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
That’s a tough question because it truly takes a village. I would have to credit and recognize all of the women and men in my life who have consistently supported, poured into me, and led by example when it comes to achieving goals and dreams. This includes my family, my fiancé, my close friends, supervisors, and mentors, etc – all of which I am so thankful for. It’s challenging to credit or recognize one singular person, outside of God. God has kept me focused along the way through all the challenges and successes, as well.
