We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Sherman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking calculated risks in life and in your career are a major part of the “becoming” process. I have found that stepping outside of the box and leaving our comfort zone, stretches us to become better in life and in our career. In risk taking we ultimately learn that we are stronger than our fears and competent enough to meet the moment! One of the major risks that I took was back in 2005 when I decided not to return to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. That decision was not an easy one because I was leaving a job where I was thriving as a commercial lender at a local bank for 7-years. It was scary to leave a city that I called home for 30-years. In retrospect, stepping out in faith and planting my feet in Atlanta was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. I came here without a friend or connection and started all over again. My experience has taught me that resilience, tenacity, faith in God, and hard work are keys to making it through the risk-taking seasons of life. I am thankful that I took that huge leap of faith because it has caused me to reap several rewards!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career journey has been very interesting. As a child, I did not know exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up. I only knew that I would be professional, dressed in a suit and handling business. I began my career in financial services processing auto loans for a large automotive company in New Orleans; my hometown. After 2-years, I went into a banking career that has spanned more than 25 years and counting. There have been many challenges along the way, but I have remained true to my core values of treating everyone with equal dignity and the utmost care when it comes to their financial journey. What sets me apart from the rest of my peers is that I get it! I have struggled personally in my own finances due to life circumstances like illness in my family and natural disasters like hurricane Katrina. Because of my personal hardships, I am able to empathize with others and help them to create a sense of financial well-being, so that they can bank with ease and have the confidence to achieve their financial goals.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Breakfast at Highland Bakery is a must! I would definitely take them to Ponce City Market, for a variety of eating and sights to see, especially the rooftop at Ponce! A walk or ride along the Beltline is always super fun because you can walk, take a scooter or ride a bike. A day trip to Avalon in Alpharetta is pretty cool as well. Being a Fayette County guy, I would have to take them to Trilith to see the movie studios and the beautiful community right next door called The Town at Trilith. Dinner at Barcelona Wine or Atlanta Fish Market are always on the agenda too! Negril Village and Two Urban Licks are also some of my fav places to go!
