We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Mincey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind success is working to stay “centered”. What I mean is not letting the work overwhelm you. You have to compartmentalize it and tactfully execute things. I try to stay even-keeled. If you can manage that, and I still work at it all the time, then it usually works out. I live by a quote: “How you adjust to the unforeseen determines success.”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe what separates me from others is the combined work ethic, personality, and natural feel. I learned my work ethic from my parents, my personality is just who I am, and I feel like I adjust thru the unseen tactfully.

Relationships are the story of my career. Not because anything was given, but if you maintain relationships and your work speaks for itself, people tend to remember or want to do business with you. The journey to my current place in my career wasn’t easy at all. Coming out in 2007, during the “Great Recession”, it was difficult to find a job. I did a lot of hourly gigs in retail, bookstores, etc. I was approached about an opportunity by a mentor with the Atlanta Braves in 2008. I had a great time and worked hard, but was not offered a position. I worked an odd job or two but found my first full-time opportunity in 2010 with a startup sports company. I was recommended for this job by my mentor to someone she knew (relationships are important). I wound up being a part of that company for eight years. During a company transition, I was let go. Luckily, I did freelance/contract work for a year (Again, based on relationships), and it was a great growth period.

As I was succeeding in my new career pivot, Covid-19 hit and eliminated my ability to work. Someone I knew reached out to let me know of an opportunity. I applied for the position, based on that relationship. I have been in my current role for almost three years.

I want people to know that you have to make an impression on people. Turn those impressions into relationships. If you cultivate them in a positive light, you never know how or when they will affect your life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man…this is a great question. So many great places!

For a more swaggy vibe, we’d have to go to eat/drink at Colony Square. My two favorite locations over there are Saints + Council and Establishment. Excellent ambiance, drinks, and energy. If you want unbelievably good authentic food, let’s go up Buford highway and get a variety of food options. Two of my favorite locations are El Rey Del Taco and La Casona Colombian. Those are just a few food options to explore!

Some great places to hang out and visit would be the new Westside Reservoir Park. Great biking trails and walking spaces. The Bamboo Forest is also a fun place to hike and visit! If you want to just people-watch or hang out, we would be at Avalon. Plenty of food places, shops, and stores. You could spend an entire day there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There isn’t enough space, but there are a few people I would love to credit. My mentor/big sister, Tanya Forrest Hall, has always seen more in me than I believed. She helped place me on this journey I have been on and I’m so grateful I met her when I did.

Another shoutout is deserved for an organization, the Jackie Robinson Foundation. I’ve been a part of the foundation since 2003 and a part of the alumni since 2007. Led by the illustrious Rachel Robinson, I have been humbled and honored to be among its staff and most importantly, the scholars and my fellow alumni. The amount of unmitigated love and support renews my spirit every time we are in contact or fellowship together. It is truly a family that I am forever grateful to be a part of.

One more shoutout to my family. To my mother, father, and two sisters: thank you for giving me the base of who I am. I love you all very much. To my fiancé and daughter, I thank you for your love and support. I can be my best because of you.
