We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, what inspires you?
I walk into every wedding knowing that I am solely responsible for capturing one of the most important memories in my couples’ lives. Don’t get me wrong, this job comes with a huge amount of stress. Weddings are one-and-done type events. I don’t get a do-over which makes the pressure of capturing the day perfectly ever so much more intense — but I honestly thrive off that pressure of the day! It’s a healthy amount of stress to keep me on my toes at all times. I started all of this for the sole purpose of capturing memories. Moments in time that families will be able to look back on in years to come. I tell all my couples that wedding videography is an investment for their future selves. After the vivid memories of the wedding day have faded in a few months, I’m inspired by knowing my work will allow that couple (and their families) to relive such a monumental moment in their lives!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The videography space is very saturated in Atlanta — making it even more important to stay true to your brand and be intentional about what you can offer to a prospective couple. One thing that truly sets me apart is my experience! Not as a videographer (though, that is equally important), but my experience with planning a wedding. I married my college sweetheart back in 2018 and we planned absolutely everything ourselves. Planning a wedding is a very stressful and tedious process. It’s one of those things you’ll never be able to fully appreciate until you do it yourself. I remember how stressful the planning process was for my now wife and I and I vowed to myself when I started Memory Films that I would structure my business in a way that would be empathic to the couples seeking to book with me. From my booking process to packages and just general availability to call me around the clock with quick questions, my couples truly have a tailored experience that a lot of companies can not offer. An experience, I definitely wish we had when planning our wedding.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The best start to the day is definitely stopping by Sun in my Belly for their amazingly fresh meals (bonus points if we grab some of their freshly made pastries). Next, it’s a must to ride the electric scooters downtown Atlanta and get lost in the ambiance. I’m an outdoorsy kind of guy so a trip to the belt line is also in order. Next is one of my secret gem restaurants, North Italia for some lunch. Can’t go wrong with some fun on the rooftop of Ponce. Ending the night at The Yard Milkshake bar for a sugar rush before bed!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Kudos are in order for Matt Johnson with WhoisMatt.com. I am nothing short of a self-taught videographer and learned everything I know from his amazing instructional videos. If you’re a videographer, seasoned, or just starting out, and looking for a great starting place for education about videography in the wedding space, his YouTube channel, Matt WhoisMatt Johnson is a great place to start.
