We had the good fortune of connecting with BRAHMIKHA ANCHALA and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi BRAHMIKHA, how do you think about risk?
Parents grew up in India and took a big risk to move out of their country, life, and family to give us the world exposure. Having that as an example and considering a risk that they took for us sets a precedence to how I live my life. Risks are also all about perspectives if it wasn’t for Steve Jobs taking a risk on Apple, I would’t be writing this response on my mac or facetiming my loved ones. Pursuing a creative journey could be considered risky to many but in my perspective learning more about myself helps me to give more to other endeavors in life. Majority of people in todays world keep living an unhappy life and lose themselves, therefore, I believe that I need to take journey of life to discover myself through artistic endeavors. Risky or self discovery? you tell me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an Actor/Storyteller/Podcaster/Creator/Photographer. My goal is to help people find themselves without the boundaries of societal norms through my creative journey. I may not be the only Indian American woman in the creative field but I am the only individual who is ME. I truly believe that every individual has unique characteristics that cannot be blended amongst others. So, I try to stay to true to who I am. So, let me rephrase, I may not be the only Indian American woman in the creative field but I am the only individual who has experienced life in three different countries with a sense of gratitude, curiosity, and adventure with Brahmikha Anchala lenses. Hence, I do try my best to stay true to those life experiences, my Indian roots, how I reflect on challenges with an uplifting, “I can do this” attitude.” If it’s a smooth road, it is not worth it. You need to struggle and work day and night to feel content of your achievements. I had to crash friends houses in NYC/NJ and travel two hours some days just to make it for an audition. I am now in Atlanta and thankfully my parents live here so the travel is much better but I still have to make sure I am on top of my game, train well and ready to go whenever. Go through tons and tons of rejections to book one gig and going through the superficiality. For example, an agent once asked me if I had acne to my face. Does it get to you? Yes, of course, but you cannot survive the industry if you take the superficiality to heart. Keep an end goal in mind and keep at it. Thankfully, I have an amazing support system who are constantly positive and uplifting. Advice to all the young women starting this journey: Build a strong support system and work on yourself first. Work on that confidence, work on that belief in yourself. So, no one can let you down. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. All you young women are beautiful in your own way no matter what. Let your inner strength and confidence define who you are. Not your acne, not your height, not your skin tone. Love yourself!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is a great city to live or visit, the city has the creative side as well as the suburb side. I am going to start of with showing the friend a coffee place by the lake, Chattahoochee Coffee Company, where you can grab a coffee and sit by the lake and unwind and catch up. Then, I would take them to buford where you can eat any international cuisine you prefer. To burn off some food, I would recommend exploring in High Museum and Atlanta History Center to feel Atlanta’s vibe and learn about the culture. I would then end the day visiting Sky Line for some drinks and also enjoy the city view.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Giving a specific person shoutout in my life wouldn’t be fair as we all learn and grow fro everyone we meet. However, every single person in my life whether it’s my parents, friends, sibling, cousins, family, and strangers I met that left a mark on my journey. All of them have played a crucial factor to who I am today, it is a cliche answer but it is also the truth. With that said, there is a book that l would highly recommend to everyone to navigate this journey of life with some soul, “The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho”. This book is pages of inspiration and wisdom and is a must to read. This book personally was a reinforcement in my life to trust your instincts and create a life of your own for yourself.
