Meet Boss Britt | Promoter / Host / MC / Entrepenuer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Boss Britt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Boss, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started throwing parties when I was 15. I learned early that you don’t need a 9-5 to make money. Once I discovered this, this changed my outlook on how I could provide for myself. I have worked jobs since I was 14. The amount of money that I could make within 4 hours was the same amount of money I used to make for working 5 days / week for two weeks. I knew entrepreneurship was my ultimate end goal however it didn’t happen over night. After starting a company at 15, teen parties been dangerous in my hometown, Cincinnati. I then migrated to music business which I did for 3 years. Music business requires a whole different level of patience because in the beginning, you are putting money in and not making any money at all. Once that endeavor came to an end I was lost. I then started to think of what I was good at without even thinking about it and that thing was curating events. Thus I launched Cincy LGBT Productions in 2014. I have stayed in this field since then.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’m mostly proud about being from Cincinnati, Ohio – a very small town – and making it as far as becoming an International host/mc. Of course my journey wasn’t easy. The biggest challenge that I had to overcome was to not give up. Parties are stressful; you can lose money; you can have no attendees; I’ve been robbed before, etc. I see myself as an innovator. I set the tone when it came to parties especially in my city. I booked people who weren’t necessarily A list celebrities but people who were actually entertaining and added to the vibe of the party. The fact that I’m not only a promoter but also a host/mc who’s pretty good at it always has helped my career and set me apart. I help set the tone of my party which is something I understood from the beginning. Also with me being a very positive person, my energy reflects on the tone of our parties. There’s no drama, a true safe place. My job is to make sure you have a good time. Even if it’s only 10 people at the party, I vow to make sure we have the best time of our life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is an easy place to impress out of towners lol. The food alone is all you really have to show to ensure a visitor has a good time. Whenever my friends/family visit, I always take them to my favorite spots, Mangos, Negril, or Dat Fire Jerk (I love Jamaican food). Where im from , we don’t have different cultured food so it’s always fun to expand tastebuds lol. Trap Museum, MLK JR, neighborhood, Culture Experience, the Ferris wheel, CNN building, or The Autospa are always dope places to go. That’s right, the auto spa, a car wash part owned by TI who is always there. You’re more likely to see him, Shaq, and more celebrities just while getting a car wash, hookah and food all at one place.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In no particular order, I would like to shout out Millz, Bean, Aris Ray and Nolan. They were the first promo team that I was ever apart of, iSWAG Ent. I was one of the last to join and I appreciate them for adding me because being introduced to throwing events changed my life forever. S-Dot and Busta Luv, major shoutout to them for teaching me how to have a good presence on the mic when hosting. I would like to shoutout everyone who ever supported a Cincy LGBT event from the promoters to attendees. The amount of history we made will never be forgotten. Shoutout to Moe and We Dem Boiz. They were the first to have me apart of events in Atlanta. I was able to grow a huge following from working with these people. Next, shoutout to Lalaa Shepard and DJ eXeL. Two my most loyal friends who believed in me enough to partner with me on many things that helped all of our careers in Atlanta tremendously. Rhea, my good friend from Toronto, shoutout to her for plugging me in with her dj friends who booked me in Canada which resulted in me becoming an International host/mc. Shoutout to Jena’e Mitchell, my mentor here in Atlanta who helped manifest so many things for me. Thank you for reassuring me of everything that I was going and thank you for being my diary when I needed to vent. Last but not least, I would like to shoutout Big Cam. This was my first Bestfriend, someone who I admired and would do anything for. Although he betrayed me, the lesson I learned behind it is what fueled me to get back into doing parties and without that betrayal, I may have never done so.
