We had the good fortune of connecting with Blake Klepper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Blake, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My name is Blake Klepper and since I was young, I have always looked at others and studied what they did for a living. I was very curious about what made them love their job. Most of the people I observed seemed to just be content with their lives and jobs. Working for a large scale company with a very average life seemed to suit most people. Once I became old enough, I decided to begin thinking about my own career. Was I going to ‘bend the knee’ and have my own average life? It was scary to think about coming out of high school. However, I pushed on and started working a full time job while taking classes at Kennesaw State University. The end of my college career is starting to press me and I still haven’t decided what my career will be. All I knew is that life was too short to just go work for someone else and have a safe, secure lifestyle. I wanted more and I found someone who shared my same belief. I met Connor Gilbert who had been doing the same thing as me, working his whole life not knowing what he wanted to do. Me and Connor became very close friends and even starting working together. As all people do, we started joking about starting our own business and deviating from the path that had been set before us. What started as a joke, actually started to become enticing. Me and Connor became obsessed and started to try to come up with ideas for a business model. At the time, we worked for a Moving Company in Atlanta and we knew how the system operated on a day to day basis. The idea was right in front of us. We both agreed that the Moving business is something we could actually do and be good at. We began working day and night to attempt to throw our lives into a company of our own. After three long months, everything was in order. We had started our own company and I couldn’t be happier.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets Midtown Moving apart from the rest, is our personable experience we guarantee to every customer. The moving process can be very stressful and a massive part in your life. With our trained professionals and upfront honest costs, we pride ourselves on the satisfaction of every customer. Since we are such a small business, we are able to form a relationship with you and your family personally. Me and Connor are actually out there helping you move! We take it very serious and absolutely love doing it. The process of starting this business was not easy at all. Finding customers can sometimes be the hardest part along side all the legal documents and things. In order to even get the ball rolling, you need to first have customers. No one seems to want a small company to help in their big move. However, I can assure you that np move is too big and every item is treated with the same, if not better, care than if a bigger company were to help move you. Overcoming these challenges have been an ongoing struggle but only time will help us!
This business has been a massive learning curve. There was so much that I didn’t know about managing a business that I now understand. The biggest one is treating people with respect. When you give someone your word, you will follow up on that. Your word is so valuable and that is how you can really start to grow.
If I leave you with one thing, it would be to trust us at Midtown Moving. When we give you our word, we mean it. We provide every customer with a personable, loving, and professional experience. Trust our word and trust our company for your next move!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The most fun places in Atlanta is a hard list to come up with! There are so many fun places in the city. I would say go to a Braves game, have dinner in Buckhead, go shopping at the Mall of Georgia, enjoy some ice cream over in Midtown, and even enjoy the beautiful scenes in Ponce Market.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe everything to family. Me and Connor, my co-owner, both agree that family has been the only reason we have made it as far as we have. Our father’s have been more than supportive, they have been working beside us. When me and Connor are in class and don’t have time, they have been finding deals and equipment. Not only our dad’s but our mom’s as well. They have been very supportive and loving on this whole process, especially when all hope seems lost some days. Family is a huge support system and they have made our lives a whole lot better. The traditional career path was not for us and our family’s knew that.
