We had the good fortune of connecting with Bill Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bill, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Throughout the ten years we’ve been in business, there’s really one driving force: our customers. It’s all about the customers, all about customer satisfaction. You get the idea. And here’s the thing – that means we work hard, every day, rain or shine. We are dedicated to every job, just like it’s the first, and we’re committed to moving each family and their treasured belongings, just like it’s our own. So yes, the work ethic runs deep, and our customers are grateful, as we are for them.

What should our readers know about your business?
Well, my “30-second elevator speech” goes like this: Triumph Companies is a family-run, locally owned, ten-year-old (plus!) company that offers moving services to Metro Atlanta and North Georgia communities. We are honored to be a trusted partner of our clients and consistently achieve five-star reviews. The Triumph team makes for a solid company foundation; we’ve worked together for years which is not something all moving companies can say. There’s a lot of risk when you start your own business, leaving behind the safety net of a reliable salary when you have a family to support e.g. But the reward is waking up every day with new clients, excited families venturing into the next phase of their lives whether it’s a first home, a second home at the lake, a downsized home or their dream home. That we are chosen to be a part of the process and that our team excels in making it all happen when it should and how it should, is the reward. And very much worth it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is not only a terrific place to raise your kids, it’s also a great place to visit – there is literally something for everyone. Of course, how we spend our time depends on the season. We’re big sports fans here so if it’s spring, then a Braves game will surely be on the docket. Fall? We’ll probably go cheer on my son and his high school football team. If we want to actually “play”, then we’ll swing by Top Golf for an entertaining evening. Any of Atlanta’s area lakes make for the perfect day out; there’s nothing like boating to relax the mind and bring people together. As for restaurants, Oak Steakhouse at Avalon is a sure bet for special occasions, and Forsyth County’s new Halcyon development offers a number of options for good food and better people watching. Still looking for more? Living so close to one of the country’s largest cities means we also get premier entertainment venues, like the historic Fox Theater. Guess I just answered the question why Atlanta’s been my home all my life.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to offer up a shoutout to Michael Layne, who has been my neighbor for years. I started Triumph Companies more than ten years ago, and as you can imagine, it took some courage to leave behind the “sure thing” job and venture into entrepreneurship. At the time, Michael was an owner for ServiceMaster, a restoration company, and he encouraged me to take the leap. I haven’t looked back, and have him, to thank.
