We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca Mcfadden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bianca, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
I was a Pastor kid that grew up in church. We went to church 3 times a week. I later became extremely grateful for being raised in church and introduce to God. It was that and the bible that got me through some of my worst times. One scripture is ”Isaiah 41:13 For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, Fear not, I am the one who helps you. I struggled with fear of success and just fear to really let go and show my talent thinking I was not good enough. This scripture and others truly helped me understand that I should not fear anything because I have God as my help, and you can’t get no better then God as your help!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The first time I worked on set I fell in love when I seen my name on the credits on the big screen I became head over heels. This was it and I’m going to make sure I give it my all. Bianca Artistry was on the go! The beautiful thing about me is that I have many talents. When a director hires me he can get a makeup artist and hairstylist. On one film I even did SPX makeup along with hair and makeup. Let’s just say that film made it to Indie Festival! I was beyond proud of myself and the team. This is not a easy journey and one thing I learned is to enjoy the moment and learn all you can because one thing about hair and makeup there’s always something new coming out before you blink you eye. You have to stay current and with the times. Be willing to learn new things.. be willing to be taught. When I first started it was just me and I name my Business Bianca Artistry. My job is to help directors bring their vision to life on the big screen through hair and makeup. I later thought to myself I love what I do but I was blessed to be able to have this opportunity and it’s not easy to get in the film industry. So I decided that if i get the opportunity to bring a new talented artist on set with me as an assistant then lets go! I changed my name to Bianca Artistry & Co and the first film I received was a period piece which required assistant. I brought on my first talented hairstylist Jamiyrah Spriggs-Jackson and she did an amazing job! It’s a great feeling to be able to do what you love but even better feeling to be able to pay it forward. So Bianca Artistry &Co helps bring your vision to life for film and Special events and we are always looking to help new talent get the opportunity to experience the film industry.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When you come to Philly you know you have get a philly cheesesteak! My favorite place is Ishkabibble’s on South Street. Lot’s of celebrities would come through there and believe me it’s one of the best spots. Don’t forget Fred Water ice on Chestnut Ave. Manayunk has some great restaurants to eat and then end the night downtown at ”Old City” to dance and have some fun socializing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My grandma is the original family hairdresser. It’s because of her that I even have a love for hair. She used to do hair for the ladies in the neighborhood on Saturday night for church Sunday morning right out of her kitchen. I remember as kids her pressing our hair bone straight! No press and curl like grandma press and curl. Now for film I have to thank my brother Sharif Mcfadden started “Creative Habits Production “ with his long time Friend Rich Rogers. He writes and produces so one of his films ‘Shadow Boxer’ I was key HMU. I showed him I was great at this and whatever he needed I could make it happen. He now has a production company name ”Creative Habits” and I have been blessed to be his Key HMU for all his productions. Because of him doors opened for me to work with other great production companies and meet some amazing people in the film industry. I will always be grateful for him bringing me on his journey.
