We had the good fortune of connecting with Bhawika Gaur and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bhawika, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
All your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them. ~ Walt Disney
I believe that at the end of the day it is all about courage, courage in any form, be it for the life you want or against the existing one. Everyone says that Libra’s are quite indecisive and I can totally relate to it. I know what’s best for me, what all decisions that I make today will take me there…. Just this overthinking and indecisiveness has lead to many hindrances in my path. My brain can be worst enemy at times. Until the time I read this quote and it made so much sense. Sometimes you don’t just need courage to chase your dreams, rather at times especially in my case I needed courage to stop overthinking and procrastinating every decision that was keeping me away from achieving my dreams.
End of the day it’s all about courage and this quote has made so much sense in my life, probably has turned me into a better decision maker.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Since childhood I’ve never been the one to follow the masses. I always did what I wanted, though they usually lead me into a lot of trouble but at the end of the day I was always contended. Fitness as a career option came as a rescue when I was at the lowest in my life, later did I know that it won’t just change my life but of thousand more I’m connected with.
I did work under many esteemed high paying organisations but as always I was never contended. Majority of those brands were about profits, sales and hardly about health or fitness or genuinely helping someone out. I’ve left more jobs than the months in a year in a matter of 2 years purely because I was not contended.
That’s when I returned back to India from Dubai, to finally start with my own business and brand in 2019 where I could genuinely help people out with the best of the knowledge I have in this field.
TAPAH- a gym for your mind, was established in 2019, 6 October with just a single hope to provide world class fitness training to everyone at very pocket friendly rate.
2020 March, just 5 months down the line, COVID hit, much like every other business TAPAH too had to suffer. Couple of weeks passed by that a thought struck me that it was enough. I can’t let covid take over TAPAH. I started with online trainings, people started joining in, one at a time, to so much that by October 2020, I hit 5000+ trainings across globe. That’s the same time when investors started showing their interest in TAPAH, with my best friend coming on board we launched our website catering global clients.
2021 we launched our healthy snacking options/products across India.
The road forever has been bumpy, but being in it full head, I believe that every time I’m about to fall I bounce back better for my intentions have never really been to just do business but more to serve with the best certified trainings.
The biggest hindrance in my field hasn’t been the profits or COVID, but the lack of knowledge and questioning power of people. In majority of the cities in India, self claimed fitness trainers aren’t even educated in the field, just because they have built their body in a specific shape, people consider them as gurus. Moreover YouTube certified fitness gurus have ruined the market and so many lives. Currently my aim along with providing certified and world class trainings is to help people utilise their questioning power and ask the authenticity of the trainings. If one can’t go to an uneducated doctor, one shouldn’t opt for such a fitness trainer.
That’s also what TAPAH aims at, we not only serve our clients but also help our trainers expand their knowledge and education in the field.
Fitness should be a necessity, not a luxury and one shouldn’t have to rip their pockets off for that.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ah! Kanpur (In the state of Uttar Pradesh, India) has so much more to offer. If someone’s visiting, half of the trip shall go in trying out all the local delicacies from the local vendors. Kanpur Zoo is again an amazing attraction for many.
For those who don’t know, Kanpur is the leather Manchester of India, a little shopping of leather goods won’t do any harm.
Let’s not forget about heritage and history, India is a land that holds it’s history so close, so does Kanpur, visiting all the amazing temples and beautiful architectures in the city.
Lastly who doesn’t love shopping for clothes. Kanpur produces one of the best Chikankari dresses (a beautiful thread work) that has won so many hearts.
If someone really wants to know the heart of Kanpur, one week might not be enough, for there’s so much to learn and explore.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are three people in my life to whom I somewhat owe my success. First my mom, she’s my knight, my biggest cheerleader my supporter and the only one without whom I wouldn’t have been where I’m today. If I could start my business, it was only and only because of her, she trusted my hardwork when no one else did. Everything I do is for her.
Second my aunt, Rakhee Sharma, who showed me the path of yoga as a career option when I was completely lost.
Third, my business partner and an amazing friend Sparsh Gupta, who trusts my hardwork, my instincts and has been a great support in taking Tapah (my fitness brand) to where it is now.
