We had the good fortune of connecting with Bettina Benson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bettina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I am Bettina Benson, the owner of Chloe Kristyn. Chloe Kristyn was born from a realization that I had more to offer this world and that my work is (really about) helping women see themselves in the mirror of their greatest self. Instead of living a prescribed life in which I made the “safe” and “right” choices, I began to write my own chapters and design an authentic life as well as clothing that creates a perfectly proportioned backdrop for women to tell and live their stories. Chloe Kristyn, is named after my daughter, Chloe; I will do everything I can to leave this world a better place for her.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Chloe Kristyn is a women’s clothing line that empowers women to celebrate their stories with the perfect fit. We offer classic, figure friendly silhouettes, designed to evoke emotion and leave a beautiful impression.  We are still a small and growing company that has overcome a number of challenges along the way. Given the current times, as we and all small business navigate the new normal that has been brought about by the pandemic, we have been able to thrive by taking advantage of our ability to be nimble and pivot quickly. One of the most important lessons I have learned as a business owner is the importance of identifying and establishing the core values of my business and brand. This serves as a powerful guide on the entrepreneurial journey. The most important lesson I have learned as a leader is to follow my gut.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Pre-pandemic our weekend would include Jazz at the High, dinner and drinks at a few of my favorites like Bar Margot, Gunshow, Chops & Lobster Bar, Spa Treatments, Live Music and at least one night entertaining ourselves at home. Now, we’d still manage to get a couple of great meals in, perhaps some in home massages, a driveway happy hour and we’d still find a way to explore the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I would like to thank Beth Picard for recommending me for this interview! I was recently asked a question about who is backing Chloe Kristyn and I proudly stated that we are a self funded business. Each and every client has played a part in investing in us. Our clients see the value in our offering and in me as the Founder, while the business investment world continues to show that they do not see the value in investing in Black Women Founders. I want to thank each and every woman who has supported Chloe Kristyn. Last, I want to shoutout my incredibly supportive family for supporting my dream and purpose.
