Meet Bakari B.: The Lyricist, Da Don Dada, & The Juice

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bakari B. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bakari, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I have two main principles that I stick by. Cherish those who are in your corner, and always remember who you are. It’s always imperative to remember, respect, and care for those who want you to succeed and who are helping you along your journey. No one person can get to huge goals or success alone. It usually takes a team or collective to reach it. You should always cherish them for their service (paid or not), and because tomorrow is not promised for anyone. Remembering who you are is always having the confidence in yourself and love for yourself that no one can ever have. This is major for situations where you may “psych” or doubt yourself out of a positive situation (what if I fail, maybe I don’t deserve this, etc.), or where your idea may not get the feedback you wanted. That confidence can usually kick you into another gear, causing you not to give up but to push more efficiently. Lastly, loving yourself is always key. You may experience life changes in a relationship, career, society, etc. Yet, truly valuing who you are can keep you going through the hard, rough times. These principles have gotten me through a lot obstacles in life, leading to many triumphs.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I make music that I call “That Real.” What sets me apart from others is my passion for inspiring. Taking wise words from Michael Jordan, I would truly do this for free or for no gain because of how much my heart is in this. It’s all about the love, creating vibes for anyone to listen, and inspiring anyone. I am proud of how far I have come. However, I know I have a long road ahead. I am excited my new project that is coming out on December 16th. I can’t wait for the world to hear it. I got here today by using those two principles on a daily basis. The journey here was not easy at all. A lot of money was spent, a lot of time was used & wasted, and a lot of energy was blown in various ways. I have learned so much throughout the years. I wish the younger me could have some of the knowledge I have now, but I do believe that I am right on time with where I am going. I want the world and My People to know that I am a strong Black man that has a vision. A man who will create the funk, authenticity, and the vibes for generations to come. I will lead, learn, and inspire throughout my journey, and I will always stay true to Bakari B. 🧃
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta, to me, is the city of all cities. I would take my patna to Atlanta Best Wings (off of Columbia), JJ’s (off of Wesley Chapel), and Maggiano’s Little Italy (in Buckhead) for some good food. I would take them downtown to sight see. I would also have them ride MARTA because that is an experience itself sometimes. Other than that, it’s whatever else they would want to see, do, or wherever they would want to go.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First off, shoutout to the man upstairs, AKA Bra Man From The Fifth! Without him, I am not possible. To my family, Mom Dukes, Paps, Rae, The Juice Boyz, The Eastside, Redan, BenHill, my GGC family, and my The ATL Blacklist crew, thank you to each of you that have groomed me into the young Black man I am today 🧃.
