We had the good fortune of connecting with Bailey Ward and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bailey, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I love this question because as a naturally risk-averse person, risk has been something I have had to think about a lot and face when it came to starting and now running my business. Most of my life I have chosen to play it safe and have avoided putting myself in situations where failure was an option. But when the dream of starting Bailey Ward Interiors started to grow, I knew I had to take fear of failure head on and start taking some risks. With the encouragement of my husband and some very supportive friends, I left the corporate world and jumped headfirst into starting and growing my company. And it has been every bit worth the risk. Risk is no longer something scary to be avoided, but a chance to learn and challenge to grow. And trust me, life is a lot more fun on the other side of fear when you take the risk.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Bailey Ward Interiors, is a full-service design firm specializing residential interiors. My passion is to create intentional, beautiful, and functional interiors. My projects range from new construction, to renovations, to simply refreshing a client’s existing space. I love mixing timeless, traditional pieces with contemporary art and accessories to bring a fresh, clean aesthetic that feels perfectly curated. I absolutely love getting to really know my clients and I think that this level of personal connection allows me to intertwine my style in a way that perfectly reflects the family I am working with.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta has so many wonderful areas – it would be hard to show them all the favorites in one weekend! I would kick off the weekend by starting on the Westside with drinks and tapas at Barcelona followed by dinner at JCT Kitchen and of course Jeni’s ice cream for dessert. Saturday would be spent in Piedmont Park at the farmer’s market followed by a walk on the Beltline to Ponce City Market. For lunch, I would take our visitors exploring on Buford Highway – maybe some tacos at El Ray Del Taco or Vietnamese food at Lee’s Bakery. Or if we are feeling something healthy Upbeet on the Westside is my very favorite. Saturday night would be started with cocktails and dinner at Wrecking Bar followed by some live music down the street at Variety Playhouse, one of the best music venues in the city!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I feel so lucky to have the most encouraging family and friends, but specifically my husband deserves so much credit. He really encouraged to me to take this leap of faith, and has been my biggest cheerleader, as well as sounding board and consultant for so many decisions with my business. The interior design community (including artists and other vendors) has also been so supportive and I have connected with so many designers that are willing to share their knowledge and advice. In an industry that is filled with competition, I have felt nothing but support from other designers and couldn’t be more grateful!
