We had the good fortune of connecting with B. Sergeant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi B., maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for Sergeant Creative Studios came about four years ago. I was already 2 years into being a music video director but knew that I wanted to do more . I didn’t want the space to be just another photography / film studio , it needed to have unique sets and be an experience for every artist and creative that comes through. I’ve had repeat clients tell me how they’ve been able to get their best work done at our space because they feel so comfortable , plus a load is taken off their shoulders because of how attentive our staff members are. Whats crazy is that its a small space but the amount of diverse work i’ve seen created by our clients is nothing short of amazing and inspirational . It feels great knowing my staff and I have been able to create a safe space for all artist .

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets Sergeant Creative Studios apart from other studios in NYC is our relaxed atmosphere . A lot of independent photographers and film makers use our space, and it can be overwhelming having to do everything yourself on a shoot. When you shoot at Sergeant Creative Studios it feels like a community. Everyone is there to make your shoot go as smooth as possible , encourage you , and help you create your best work .

I take pride in these values because they have propelled us into being one of the most popular studios located in New York City in such a small amount of time. In just months of opening we’ve had a lot of well known artist and creatives shoot at our space. It’s an exciting feeling and I plan on opening more locations around New York in 2023

Getting to this point was nowhere near easy , but it’s worth all the sleepless nights , tears, and RISKS ! The biggest lesson i’ve learned getting here is simply not to doubt yourself . A cliché saying, i know , but it’s the truth. In 2021 I leaped on this studio idea with the mindset of even if i failed at least i tried… look where i am now.

I have a major vision for what I want Sergeant Creative Studios to be , trust me when i say that this is just the beginning.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I was born and raised in Jamaica , Queens so a-lot of the my favorite places to hang out are there. I would take my friend immediately to my favorite restaurant & lounge called XSCAPE NYC located in Queens . It’s black owned , the drinks are amazing , they have the best wings in the city , and its always a great vibe ! New York as a whole is so diverse when it comes to restaurants , art, etc so we’d never run out of things to experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Parents have always been a driving force in my career , my whole life I’ve watched them work hard on their businesses so of course it rubbed off on me . My cousin Kai Tsehay (@official_kaikai) has also been a major factor in the success and brand of the studio . She’s an incredible photographer and business partner !
