We had the good fortune of connecting with Azjah Fagan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Azjah, how do you think about risk?
Great question! Instead of saying “risk” I say “courage and faith”. Within the past year, I dedicated myself to having more faith and courage in God. I believe they are essential when working in the modeling industry and life in general. After applying courage and faith to my life/career, I have seen a difference. It has forced me to get out of my comfort zone so I focus on the craft. As a result, it reflects in the work you create because you’re solely focusing on approval within yourself and how you perceive your work.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an Atlanta based model. My preferred form of modeling is runway but I also enjoy lifestyle, commerce and editorial modeling! I do not like to compare myself to others, I always try to out-do myself rather than look at what someone else is doing. I look for inspiration from others but not to compete; we are all unique and perfectly made! I am, however, most proud of my growth and finding satisfaction in all achievements, no matter how large or small. For example, I recently completed a photoshoot that drew inspiration from the iconic Twiggy and the photos came out amazing and received great feedback. I also created a “runway but make it quarantine” video that was fun to shoot as well! Since runway is my strong suite I truly enjoyed filming the video for everyone to see. I am here because of my support system! My family, friends and God push me to continue this journey. Although, it is not an easy path, I look at it differently now. If you love what you do, why would you stop? Thinking from that perspective, along with my support system, helps me overcome each new challenge with grace, a peace of mind and focus! Each new challenge serves as a lesson, and I have learned many, but the first that comes to mind is patience! Patience with yourself and your progress is important. Let everything come organically and do not rush the process. I would love for people to remember that you can be whatever you want to be with consistency and persistence! DO NOT LET SOCIETY BOX YOU IN AND DO NOT BOX YOURSELF! This is one of many things I try to live by.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this question! If I am going to give my best friend a tour of Atlanta we will start off with brunch at Roc South Cuisine for some amazing Southern food. Afterwards, I would take them to Lenox mall to go shopping through Buckhead, then take them to Trap Museum and have my friend Neffy give you a tour! After a full day of shopping and touring, I would end the day by having Kelz Kitchen for some delicious seafood!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
That belongs to so many people but I would not be able to list EVERY name! I have a large support system and I am so thankful for all of them.
