We had the good fortune of connecting with Averri Simone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Averri Simone, what do you attribute your success to?
My success started with finding my purpose and being persistent. I have always loved connecting individuals with the tools and resources they need. And, it is through Black Women Moguls’ that I can do precisely that. Before Black Women Moguls, I quickly lost interest in my previous platforms and entrepreneurial ventures. While I did not realize it at the time, they failed because those ventures were not fulfilling my purpose. Sometimes, you just need time to figure out what is a good fit for you. While there are moments where I feel unmotivated and “lazy,” my purpose keeps calling me back. I genuinely love what I do and seeing the transformation of the ladies I reach. My clients and followers in the Black Women Moguls’ community are the reason behind the brand’s success. They keep inspired and show me that the work I do is impactful and necessary. And it is because of them that I keep striving to fulfill our vision of assisting women in living life on their own terms without living paycheck to paycheck.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Entrepreneurship is a roller coaster of emotions. One day you feel on top of the world, and the next…Well, you feel like you are not doing enough. However, it is gratifying. While it has not been easy, I have learned from my mistakes and not let them deter me from my purpose. Many entrepreneurs make the mistake of giving up too early when their breakthrough was right around the corner. The biggest lessons I have learned so far is the value of patience, determination, and investing in yourself. As entrepreneurs, to get to our next level of success, we must be willing to take risks and invest in ourselves. Whether it is through reading, attending conferences, or working with a business coach. I remember plenty of times where I did not have money to hire a business coach. There were many times I felt stressed and stretched financially, but looking back, it was just preparation for my elevation. I was willing to bet on myself and that made all the difference.

Many women feel overwhelmed and confused as I once did. They are frustrated about not receiving the profit and business success they desire, which is why I started Black Women Moguls. In a survey, I found that Black women feel at a disadvantage compared to other ethnicities in terms of building a profitable business. That’s why I designed our curriculum to be tailored based on their immediate needs and goals. While many programs offer course learning, usually, it provides little to no accountability when they use the DIY learning format. Our business training is reinforced with added opportunities to give clients one-on-one assistance. One major factor that sets us apart from similar brands is our ability to offer done-for-you services. Our audience and clients love the done-for-you services because it accelerates their business goals, while reducing the amount of work they have to do personally. I love being able to provide clarity through actionable strategies to make their entrepreneurial journey smoother.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Although I am not a native to Georgia, I consider myself an adopted “Georgia girl.” After being in Atlanta for 11 years, there so many things I love about the place I call home. On my first stop, I would definitely have to take my friend to Clark Atlanta University. CAU is more than an institution of higher learning; it is family. My matriculation at CAU has helped to mold me into the woman I am today. Go Panthers! Next, what is Atlanta without partaking in the brunch culture? We’ll head to midtown to order an entree of the jerk chicken and waffles at Negril Village. If you have not tried it yet, you are missing out! But, go early, they get busy quickly. After we have our fill of delicious food, we will work off the calories at the Ponce City Market Skyline Park for an afternoon of fun activities. No Atlanta visit is complete without going to the Ponce City Market. Finally, we would head to East Point for some of the best cupcakes at Kupcakerie. Some of my other favorites include: Twisted Soul Smokehouse & Pours, Slim & Husky’s Pizza, Heirloom Market BBQ, Le Petit Marche, iwi fresh Garden Day Spa, Sublime Doughnuts Can you believe I still have many more to try! There’s always something to do in Atlanta!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is an easy question! Without a doubt, my mom. Growing up, my mother always ensured I was exposed to activities that would develop my mind and path for success. She sacrificed so much for me to have unique experiences. It was also my mom who planted the entrepreneurial seed. I remember early on, watching her manage her hat business, The AC Collection. I also noticed how she loved having the flexibility to call her own shots, which sparked a fire in me. I knew I wanted to be just like my mom and have that same feeling of freedom. She is the reason why I am who I am. I often joke with her and say, “it’s all your fault for making me like this.” But, I am truly grateful for each experience. She is my primary motivation for everything I do. Even though I will try, I will never be able to repay her for all that she has instilled me.
