We had the good fortune of connecting with Autumn Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Autumn, how do you think about risk?
Honestly, I am all about taking risks! Just stepping into full-time entrepreneurship was a “risk” for me. I left a comfortable job with good benefits for the uncertainty of being my own boss. But my advice is this, whatever scares you, do it! And although I haven’t always been this fearless, I realized that you will never reach your full potential if you operate solely within your own comfort zone. In my career, I found the benefits far outweighed the risks. For me, there is no price you can put on having total control of your life. After all it’s YOURS and we all deserve to live life on our own terms.
Alright, so let’s move on…What keeps you busy professionally?
I am currently the Executive Director of Defy Gravity International, which is a global motivational movement. Our mission is to inspire and motivate entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs and youth to be fearless, overcome self-limiting beliefs, tap into their purpose and be successful in their businesses and their lives. What sets us apart is our ability to engage our audiences through our high energy programming. We put on what we refer to as motivational concerts. I am most excited about our youth mentorship programs which will be rolling out next year and our expansion overseas.
How have you overcome challenges to get to where you are today, and what are your goals moving forward?
Getting here has been a journey, and I’m still learning and growing daily. The biggest challenge for me was overcoming my fear of failure, embracing change and learning to be okay with being uncomfortable. However, I was able to conquer many of my fears by learning more about myself, seeking wise counsel, and keeping my eyes on my goals for my life.
I want the world to see me as someone who does not fit into a box. I think a lot of people have been taught by society to define themselves based on their job or career. However, we are multi-dimensional. My goal is to tap into all of my gifts and interests and I want to inspire others to do the same. In doing so, we will all “defy gravity”.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting, I would definitely take her to Jeju’s Spa in Duluth for some relaxation. We could have brunch at Roc South Cuisine, grab drinks and hang out at Mod-ish, go shopping at the Avalon in Alpharetta, and cap the weekend off with a day at the Chateau Elan winery. I also love Atlantic Station. It’s an upbeat outdoor, shopping experience and they have nice restaurants.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this article to my husband, Ivan Thomas and his book “Defy Gravity”. Without his example and motivating words, I would’ve never had the encouragement to step out on faith and pursue my passions.
