We had the good fortune of connecting with Autumn Li and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Autumn, how do you think about risk?
I believe that risk and opportunity go hand in hand. Without taking any risks, there would be no room for opportunities. When an opportunity arises, it is essential to embrace the associated risks in order to seize that opportunity.

Throughout my life and career, taking risks has played a significant role. I have embarked on an adventurous journey, which involved several major changes. From relocating to different countries and cities to even transitioning from studying Computer Science to pursuing a Master’s degree in Motion Media Design, I have willingly embraced these risks. Each decision to make a substantial change in my life has been challenging, but I recognize the importance of taking such risks.

One aspect that I find particularly daunting is the potential impact on my connections with friends and family. Being on this journey, I have missed the presence of the people who have been a part of my life. Nevertheless, I firmly believe that taking risks has opened up new opportunities for personal growth and professional development, making it all worthwhile.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a designer, I approach my art by continuously exploring different styles and techniques in creating motion pieces, which I find incredibly captivating. What sets me apart is my eagerness to embark on new adventures with each project, exploring fresh approaches and concepts. I take pride in keeping my artwork undefined in terms of style, as it signifies the multitude of possibilities that lie within me.

The journey to where I am today professionally hasn’t been easy, especially as I transitioned from a logical world to the realm of creativity. Initially, I faced challenges in adapting to the creative process. However, I began to embrace the joy of learning and approached each project with curiosity and genuine interest. Despite having limited experiences to look back on, I discovered the power of starting fresh and allowing my curiosity to guide me.

The most valuable lesson I have learned along the way is to never stop trying, to maintain a sense of curiosity, and to always find enjoyment in what I do. Each challenge I encountered became an opportunity for growth, and I developed resilience and perseverance as I navigated through them.

In terms of my brand and story, I want the world to know that I am an artist constantly seeking new horizons. I embrace the unknown and find inspiration in exploring various styles and concepts. I believe that by staying open-minded, curious, and dedicated, I can continue to push the boundaries of my art and contribute unique perspectives to the creative world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend were visiting Savannah for a week, I would definitely take them to Tybee Island. It’s a serene and picturesque destination that offers a peaceful escape from the city. We would spend the day enjoying the beautiful beaches, basking in the sun, and taking leisurely walks along the shore. The island’s laid-back atmosphere provides the perfect opportunity for relaxation and rejuvenation. We could explore the charming local shops and indulge in fresh seafood at one of the waterfront restaurants. As the sun begins to set, we would find a tranquil spot to witness the breathtaking colors painting the sky, creating a serene and memorable experience for my friend’s visit to Savannah.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the program I chose at SCAD, as it has provided me with the opportunity to meet and collaborate with incredible designers, professors, and classmates. Working alongside them, we engaged in fruitful discussions to enhance our creative ideas. The supportive environment allowed for diverse approaches and perspectives, enabling me to learn and grow significantly. Every individual’s input was valued and respected, fostering an atmosphere where everyone could make their own progress. I genuinely had a great time in this program, and I am thankful for the enriching experiences and the amazing individuals I encountered along the way.
