We had the good fortune of connecting with Autumn Henning and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Autumn, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind our success is effective communication. In healthcare, it is essential to develop multi-disciplinary collaborative teams that include professionals who have diverse skills to successfully manage patient care. This includes acknowledging personality and knowledge differences while working to create unifying communication systems so that everyone is on the same page. In addition, clients need consistent and clear communication on how we are addressing their healthcare needs. They also need to know that we care about them, so for communication to be effective, we must listen first to seek understanding and earn their trust. It is only after we have a full understanding that we can create a plan and communicate it in a way in which both clients and professionals can follow so that we have the best opportunity to implement a successful healthcare plan.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our mission is to transform lives by delivering collaborative clinical services and training related to orofacial function. It started in 2016 with an idea to develop training programs for professionals on how we provide speech and feeding therapy. At the end of each course, participants keep asking for more content which we are working hard to develop. This year, we are launching our 3rd and 4th courses aimed at professionals across the globe on our model of care, collaboration techniques, and creating multidisciplanary teams! As we continued to develop and teach courses on the side while delivering pediatric therapy, we soon learned that there was a much larger need locally for myofuntional therapy for clients across the lifespan. As a response to demand, in 2020, we opened our new therapy clinic in Greenville, SC and have continued to grow. To get where we are now, we had to overcome several challenges including educating the public and professional contacts on what myofunctional therapy is and how it can help. What we’ve learned along the way is that new ideas can sometimes be difficult to accept. However, through persistence, positivity, and showing consistent results, we have turned some of our fiercest critics into our largest supporters.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Greenville, SC is a fabulous city to visit! With miles of hiking/biking trails, fantastic food, and numerous annual local events, it is a great place to visit, live, and work. Our downtown includes Falls Park on The Reedy, which is a must-see when visiting. It is surrounded by more than 100 restaurants within walking distance. Whether it is listening to live music on Friday nights, attending the Farmer’s market on Saturday mornings, catching a baseball game at Fluor Field or going to one of the many concerts and entertainment options at Bon Secours Welness Arena, there is always something to enjoy!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Having a support network has provided motivation to take risks and keep moving forward. I have learned from so many through their successes and appreciate every one of them.
