We had the good fortune of connecting with Aundrea Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aundrea, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks are a necessary part of the journey throughout life, as is struggle. There is a spectrum of risks and struggles. One of my favorite metaphors for this came from Will Smith and Steve Harvey. Will Smith said during a motivational speech, “God placed the best things in life on the other side of fear.” In an episode of the Steve Harvey Show, Harvey says, “You’ll never know if you can fly until you take the risk and jump off the cliff first.” Sometimes we pass up on opportunities because we’re afraid of change or what we may lose in the process. Sometimes the outcome is not worth the risk but when it is, it’s glorious. In my adult life, I’ve had to struggle with decision to follow my passion or conform to the expectations of a society that would never fully accept me anyway. I was in my mid-twenties with big aspirations but I had nope of them actually becoming my reality, until I heard the quotes I mentioned above. At some point, I realized that I am in complete control of my own life and my dreams would never come true if I never even attempted to manifest them. So, I gathered some of my favorite photos for an online gallery, started a business page, began uploading to YouTube, graduated from film school, and just started being progressive with my talents while also doing things that make me happy. I had to sacrifice my safety net in order to step out my comfort zone and now I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a photographer & videographer in the Atlanta area but more than eager to travel. I won’t say my journey has been hard professionally but it definitely has its ups and downs as do some of life’s obstacles in general. The most important thing is to find ways to stay motivated and never give up on your passion. You may come to a couple of speed bumps or stop signs but they are only there to help you slow down, stop and think before proceeding forward. What I love about photography and film is the ability to save precious memories and experiences but also to inspire and fuel people’s imagination for generations.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite things to do are adventurous so I would start off with Six Flags Over Georigia or some ziplining at Treetop Quest Dunwoody get the adrenaline pumping. I also love animals so we could go to Wild Animal Safari in Pine Mountain, Ga or Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary in Locust Grove, Ga, and of course there’s always ZooAtlanta and the Georgia Aquarium downtown. In terms of restaurants I would suggest, The Breakfast Bar in Fayetteville, Georgia they have a great brunch menu with tasty drinks. For lunch I would head on down to Peachtree City for a cesar wrap from Roly Poly or to the Slutty Vegan over in Jonesboro, Ga. After lunch, take a walk on one of my favorite trails which is the Beltline in Downtown Atlanta. It’s full of shops, restaurants, and beautiful art. The Botanical Gardens at Piedmont Park, Callaway Gardens, the Chattahoochee River are others beautiful places visit in the Atlanta area.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
