We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, why did you pursue a creative career?
When I was little I loved taking pictures and being in my grannies makeup lol. So I’ve been into beauty since I was about 3 years old. Ofcourse every little girl had a doll and wanted to do their hair. So aside from makeup I always had a love to enhance or transition myself or others. I loved feeling like I was someone else for the moment. As I got older I wanted to be behind the scenes and do makeup. I love expressing myself and mastering working with different features on clients.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My main focal point is makeup but I always had my hands in hair and nails also. I had dreams of becoming famous and I daydreamed a lot. I knew that I would become well known for units simply being myself. Being true to myself and creating that personable experience for my clients is what sets me apart from other artist. It’s not all ways about the money, it’s about building a Healthy client relationship. Going above and beyond to make your client feel like a celebrity for their events. Who does want to feel like a celebrity for a day ? I’m proud of the fact that I found something I love and I could never let it go. I see my growth from 2017 until now and I pushed myself to master my craft to ensure that the business continues to grow. I constantly educated myself by watching videos, collaborating with multiple artist in the industry, and networking! It’s not easy when your creative blocks kick in but it’s easy to promote myself because I’m not afraid to talk to people. When I feel myself slow down I honestly allow myself to regroup and start thinking of ways to get back busy or creating. I’ve learned to structure your business! Have a website , have a booking site , be organized, educate yourself, have confidence, and know your worth. Facedbytink is currently my makeup business name but I definitely want to expand the business to more then only makeup. I currently content create doing live makeup tutorials, tutorial reels, fashion, model, and hair tutorials . I definitely love content creating and hope to be a more successful influencer. YouTube is definitely the next platform I plan to create more on so definitely watch out for that in near future.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was visiting I would take them to Grand Luxe Cafe in Philpps Plaza and get their French toast ! Nanas Chicken and Waffle is another food spot I love. Their waffles and Catfish & Grits so good! Both places have great mimosas. I would also take them to a the Perimeter Mall because I love shopping at Akira. Going to any sporting event is also super fun to experience, so I’d definitely recommend we do that too!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes I always speak on my good friend Rodney of Red Chair Photography company. He found me on Instagram and ask me to model, Ofcourse I did and afterwards I explained that I wanted to be behind the scenes doing makeup. He gathered his team of models just for me to come up with a branding shoot and Facedbytink was created Oct 2 2017! Thank you for letting me us your models to build my platform into what it is today !
