We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Leggett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Growing up in Atlanta, I was surrounded by a rich cultural heritage and a community that emphasized the importance of family, education, and integrity. My parents unwavering support and guidance shaped me into the person I am today. They encouraged me to pursue my dreams and provided me with the tools and confidence to overcome any challenges that came my way. The strong moral foundation they built has been a guiding force in my life, influencing my decisions and actions both personally and professionally. Living in Atlanta also exposed me to diverse perspectives and experiences, fostering a sense of inclusivity and open-mindedness. This upbringing has not only made me resilient but also empathetic and adaptable, qualities that I carry with me in all aspects of my life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a Higher Education Bridge Builder, I am committed to creating pathways for students to achieve their academic and career aspirations. I take great pride in playing a role in equalizing access for college students, bridging gaps, and empowering underrepresented individuals to pursue higher education. I firmly believe that education and access are crucial to social mobility, enabling people to reach their full potential.

Mentors have been instrumental in my career journey, offering invaluable guidance, sharing their wealth of experience, and providing unwavering support. Their insights have helped me navigate challenges, seize opportunities, and grow both professionally and personally. Through their mentorship, I’ve gained confidence, expanded my network, and developed a clearer vision for my career path.

Navigating professional changes wasn’t easy, but it was definitely easier with the support of trusted mentors. Here’s what I’ve learned along the way and how I choose to contribute to my legacy: “Actively behave and engage with others in the way you would like them to behave and engage with you.” Some might say, “You reap what you sow.” So, sow and demonstrate the kind of support, reliability, empathy, and presence you desire from others in your relationships.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Believe it or not, I meet some of the most amazing people in the Atlanta Airport. With the world’s busiest airport, you get to encounter people from all over the globe. I love spending an afternoon at Ponce City Market, taking a stroll on the greenbelt, grabbing lunch, doing a bit of shopping, and ending the night with a concert at Atlanta City Winery. Atlanta always has incredible festivals, so enjoying one of those on the weekend is always a treat.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out my village for always supporting and encouraging me: my husband, family, and friends. Their love and encouragement have been instrumental in my journey, and I am grateful for their unwavering support.
