We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashlee “Seven” Samone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Seven, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my own business with the intention of creating something that would allow me to help people on my own terms. As a single mother of a child with autism and intellectual disability, I needed to be able to create my own schedule and have autonomy over where and when I worked. On the same token, I wanted to be able to create something that my son could grow up being a part of and something I could pass down to him.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Transcend Beauty and Wellness is a multi-faceted, holistic self-care endeavor, aimed at helping clients be their best selves at all times! I love to work with other creatives and entrepreneurs to pour back into the vessels that are constantly pouring into us through creating music, art, beauty, and small businesses. Most people, especially creatives and entrepreneurs, need to be reminded that, while they are out here creating beauty and solving the world’s problems, they must be mindful of their own happiness. Being a master esthetician and a reiki practitioner, I offer skin care, self-care, and energy healing services. I am most proud that I am able to change lives through facilitating self-love and helping people Transcend Beyond Beauty. The road to where I am today has most definitely been rough but I wouldn’t change a thing. I got to where I am today by going through years of trial and error, failures, self doubt, shortcomings, and setbacks. I got through those roadblocks by pressing on and not allowing “no” to ever be my final answer. I use every mistake and every failure as a lesson and I take as much knowledge as I can from a situation so that the mistake won’t be repeated in the future.

Working through my own chronic illness and my son’s diagnoses has probably been the hardest part of this journey but it has taught me perseverance and patience and to stay firmly grounded in the present because you never know what is coming tomorrow.

I want the world to know that Transcend Beauty and Wellness is a labor of love. My main objective is to pour love into my clients and help them learn to show love to themselves. I don’t look at what I do as work because I enjoy it so much. I am so grateful to be able to help others while simultaneously providing for my family and following my passion!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, we would take the drive to Baltimore, one of my favorite places, and enjoy some amazing Maryland crabs and famous Baltimore crab cakes by the water. Then visit one of the many art galleries that offer paint, puff, and sip events. No DC trip is complete without doing the tourist thing and spending an entire day on the National Mall. We would visit every Smithsonian museum, especially the African Art Museum, the Air and Space Museum, and the African American History Museum, see the Martin Luther King Memorial and ride scooters around the Washington Monument. Finally, we would take a really fun and informative walking tour of historically black neighborhoods in DC, which I love, ending at Ben’s Chili Bowl for a famous (turkey) chili dog!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my son Kaiden. He is the reason I work so hard and my motivation to be successful. I can be so hard on myself sometimes and he always shows me so much grace and compassion. He came into my life at a time when I was at a crossroads and he gave me a purpose and something to dedicate my life to. He literally saved my life!
