We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashlee Ruban and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashlee, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I was inspired as a child to pursue art – my grandfather helped pioneer independent cinema in the 60’s and 70’s with his cinematography, and that has always been a driving factor in what I would like my legacy to be. I’ve been exploring photography from a young age, and recently have picked it back up with more of a passion. It has always been something special to me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love to take photos casually or when my friends need pictures for their bands. I’m not big into studio photography; I like very straightforward images that captures a moment or a memory. I’ve been learning more about film photography, and trying to convert over from digital.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Pre-pandemic, I would take my friends over to EAV to see live music at the Earl and sit on the patio at 529. The High Museum, Botanical Garden, and the Georgia Aquarium are always a fun go-to for out of town friends. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My friends and family always deserve credit. This past year has been a tough one for everyone, but with the help and understanding of my close relationships, it has made it easier. My partner, Magnus Nelson deserves a special shoutout for being patient and understanding through my mental health struggles, and to all my friends who have stuck by my side through some bad times.
