We had the good fortune of connecting with Arkia Ivey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Arkia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I initially thought of launching From Phoenix, I thought about community and wanting to create space for people to just pause, decompress, have moments of joy, and reflect on the lives that they are leading. I thought beyond just offering candles and wanted to provide an entire experience through the products.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
From Phoenix is a wellness brand that offers peaceful interludes to creatives and go-getters alike. I launched From Phoenix to help individuals decompress and release the guilt and pressure from hustle culture.

Through our hand-poured candles and wellness tools, we promote mindfulness for every mood and moment. We recognize the importance of prioritizing self-care, creating time for leisure, and community.

I’ve gotten to this point in business (coming up on our first anniversary on April 17th) by staying focused on the bigger picture, veering from instant gratification, having patience, and knowing that From Phoenix will be where I envision it.

It took work to get to this point. This all started in my college dorm with me pouring candles for my own enjoyment. Before officially launching From Phoenix, I sat on the idea for four years. Ultimately, I had to build my confidence to launch and get over my fears and self-doubt.

I’ve learned that it is essential to ask for help and receive good support when offered to prevent myself from burning out. Having a trusted community of support, advocates, and mentors contributes to my growth and success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmm, this is tough because Atlanta has so many gems! I would definitely suggest going to Cultivate for a nice breakfast + WADADA for juices and smoothies.

Juiceheads for a chill vibe and to grab hot tea and more fresh juice–– it’s a vibe any time of the day.

Plantbased Pizzeria, Tassili’s, and Slutty Vegan for good vegan food.

Poor Calvin’s for dinner; their lychee martinis are 10/10.

Cafe Intermezzo for late-night desserts and drinks.

Piedmont park is perfect for hanging out, and I would suggest Sweetwater Creek for a good hike.

I also love checking out different food trucks and eating a Ponce City Market. LaRayia’s Bodega has the coolest merch, great drinks, + energy.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank God for placing this vision upon me. I’d also like to shoutout my loved ones for their continued support!
