We had the good fortune of connecting with April Woodyard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi April, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started in healthcare 25+ years ago working in primary care before specializing in breast care in 2007 after relocating to Atlanta from South Carolina. I gained a lot of knowledge and experience in this field and was very satisfied with the care that I was providing for my patients. After moving from a privately owned practice to a larger organization, I was able to really grow my skills and get more exposure to the many aspects of care for breast cancer patients. I was an important part of the team assisting the patients through their care before and after the diagnosis. Through the years, I became disheartened by the number of patients who might have benefited from early detection through better education and awareness. I felt like more could be done in the community and I developed a style of practice that empowered my patients to become more involved in their care which was becoming really effective. I started my own business because I did not want this information to be limited to the people who were only my patients. I enjoy teaching and wanted the freedom to make the learning experience fun and interactive.

What should our readers know about your business?
As a speaker, I am available for events throughout the Atlanta area such as health fairs, employee health events, breast cancer awareness events, panel discussions, webinars, etc! What sets me apart from the rest is that I have a unique style of teaching using very practical and simplistic methods that are easy to follow, but very effective.

The biggest challenge I face is making people realize that getting this information could save lives; and it literally has in my experience. I feel that this challenge will be overcome with time once people are able to recognize the benefit and spread the word to others.

I have learned that “what is meant to be, will be” and I am encouraged that the ones who need to hear my message will hear it. I want people to know that my drive comes from my passion and compassion for others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my family and friends come to town, the first place my husband and I think of taking them to is the Beltline. We love walking and being outdoors. There are lots of restaurants and the scenery is great! We love that there is a huge variety of restaurants in Atlanta and one of our favorite spots is Mission + Market. Riding through downtown at night experiencing the bright lights and energy of the city is amazing.

Another amazing thing about the city is that we have four major sports teams and some beautiful stadiums and arenas. Fun for the entire family.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shout out to all of my patients who constantly remind me of the important service that I am providing to them. I am overjoyed with comments like, “No one has ever explained it to me in that way” or “You have a great way of making me feel calm and reassured”. I have so much gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of their lives in a very positive way. I am completely invested in being a trusted partner on their healthcare team.

Thank you so much to my husband who brightens my life with laughter, my mother who believes in me, encourages me and constantly reminds me that I am capable, my father who demonstrated the courage to be different and my sister and brother who are two the the dearest parts of my life. And to my daughter, Sienna, I see so much of myself in you and I know that you are going to change the world in your own special way.
