We had the good fortune of connecting with Anya Gibson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anya, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It sounds dramatic, but I cannot live without constantly pursuing some type of “something.” Some days, this looks like 10+ designs completed in 24 hours. On others, it looks like curating a fun, casual playlist. From a young age, I knew that suppressing the need to create didn’t work for me, my principles, or my sanity, so I had no choice but to pursue a dream like Three of Swords. Quarantine was a huge eye-opener for me, seeing so many self-proclaimed “non-artists” discover themselves through baking, sewing, painting, cooking, etc. on TikTok and Instagram. Everyone has something to express about themselves via art, and if, like me, you feel that suffocating that side of you is nearly impossible, a professional creative career may be in your near future.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Lately, one thing I’ve felt separates Three of Swords from other alternative brands is what I am/am not inspired by and how that inspiration permeates everything I create. Through a conversation with a friend, I realized that my designer mindset isn’t “I want my customers to look like vampire hotties,” more so “I want my customers to embody vampire hotties: sexy, seductive, otherworldly.” I take inspiration from the connotations of things, not the things themselves, which is why I’m rarely inspired by other designers. Wearing Three of Swords allows you to visually express your true essence, your inner vibe, whether that be “bloodthirsty office siren she-beast” or “melancholy Victorian ghost coquette.” It’s never just “artsy person in artsy clothing.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Mildred Pierce, a New York-based electronic hardcore duo featuring my close friend, Amani Williams-Harris. Their unique, industrial and Giallo film-inspired sound is one of a kind and deserves a listen from anyone into a dark, hardcore sound.
