We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Gaines and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to build a brand! Something that everyone can relate & gravitates towards, The recycling logo is the logo I choose for the brand I just put my twist to it. I did that because you see the recycling logo even if you don’t want to see it. Stores, trash cans buildings etc, your going to see. So when you see it I want you to think of us if you made a purchase or simply know our brand. I even use the emoji literally all the time and it just became a movement I didn’t send a text without that emoji and all my peers gravitated towards that. I’ve planned on making a difference in my community doing volunteer work cleaning the community helping the homeless water ever it takes to better my community on North Omaha, Nebraska! We are more than just a clothing brand MIH- MAKN IT HAPPEN became a lifestyle.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For so long I’ve been lost wondering what should I do is this world graduating HS with so many fields to hop in the hardest decision was to find something I wouldn’t mind doing for a few decades. I can honestly say I enjoy being a entrepreneur. Owning a clothing brand and a lawn service wasn’t the plan but I always loved to get fresh in some nice clothes but I also didn’t mind getting my hands dirty I actually hated laid back jobs I needed a sweat I just couldn’t work for anyone else for too long, so I started my own. I did everything on my own for a year straight made so many mistakes found my self being exhausted and depressed trying run 2 business by myself. Realized that I needed a village a strong support system and a better team. I asked my younger brother to join the team becoming a co-owner at 17 made me feel good as a older brother. Built a better relationship with my mom and she slowly just became my assistant and over seeking for our business. Through my ups and downs I learned that you have to be willing to play whatever position for the team to win as a entrepreneur you also have to put your money where you mouth is and be willing to pay for what you don’t know or can’t do. As the marathon keeps going nothing will ever be easy it actually only gets harder but you should want those problems. As a small business owner with the hopes of becoming a massive worldwide empire I want people to know is that life is you make it you are the ceo of your life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely go to Sheila & Rjs great comfort foods. Jim’s Rib Heaven or Wayne’s BBQ for good southern BBQ. Boiling Crawls for seafood and a handful of food trucks. If you looking for food and drinks I’ll say Jets Sports Bar or even Tracks. The only nightclub I’ll say is Throwbacks in downtown Omaha Nebraska
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s so many people to name it’s a handful of people I can think of I guess that’s just the power of networking and building relationship. I would say my mother plays a huge part and I’ll give my credit to her, I lost my father young and she done everything she could to provide for me and my siblings. She’s also my assistant and very hands on with my businesses nothing really moves without her input and I love that!
