We had the good fortune of connecting with Anjie Gbadebo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anjie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always known that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I wasn’t sure what the business idea was but I knew that I wanted its mission to be centered around women empowerment. Eventually, my mother inspired me to start crocheting my own clothes. After a year of that, I began create complete looks for women to look and feel amazing. My thought process behind that was “If you look good, you feel good. If you feel good, you do even better.” I’ve always been admired for my sense of style and I wanted to share that feeling of being confident and bold.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets Anjiecoded apart from any another brand is the fact that my lookbook are truly like no other. You cannot put my style in one category. It’s eccentric, chic, bold, and expressive in more ways than one. When creating looks, I don’t think about trends but instead get inspired by the world around me. We need more originality and creativity in our lives. Anjiecoded is the future! I have many ideas for my brand and the hardest part that I’ve had to overcome is starting where I am at. Everything is not going to be perfect and I don’t have every resource to my disposal just yet. Sometimes, I get in my head about everything being perfect before I showcase a look. You can’t let the little things stop you! We all have to start somewhere and I have grateful for how far I’ve come and how far I will go.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One thing about me is that I love great food! The first thing we’re doing is going to Ike’s Cafe in Norcross, GA and eating suya along with other African delicacies. After that, I’d take them to Piedmont Park to relax. We could do a sip and paint. Once it’s nighttime, it’s time for enjoyment! I’d take them to and African lounge/club for great vibes. I love dancing and having fun, plus I’m down for anything! Another must-see place for me would be Puttshack, the mini-golf place in Atlanta. The week would be filled with trying new foods, dancing, and creating new things!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my lovely Mother! She is the reason I started crocheting and she truly opened a new world for me. I am so grateful for her and the other inspirational women in my life that encourage me to keeping going!
