We had the good fortune of connecting with Anita Scruggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anita, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
As I grow as a woman and mom with a business, I have released the unrealistic expectation of perfect balance. There will never be equal distribution of my energy to everything that I manage without it leading to self sabotage. I aim for proper prioritization, harmony, and grace to allow myself to complete what is necessary and leave room to take care of myself.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am now a branding coach. I started my journey as a freelance graphic designer and transitioned to coaching after recognizing and honoring where I get the most fulfillment and client results. I’m most proud of being a witness to hundreds of women so far as they launch their own vision. I have reached this point in my career by continuing to always be a leader and student, simultaneously. I faced many personal challenges while building that gave me so many ways to relate to the women that I work with. I learned to keep personal development a priority, own who I am in business and accept partnerships instead of chasing clients. I learned the importance of investing and delegating tasks in my business that I don’t have time to do. Most impactful, I learned to get the money that my transformation is worth. I want my brand to speak to every woman who thought she had to shrink for acceptance and give her the fuel and self-permission to create the business and life that she desires.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmmm I would do things that makes us laugh and detach from obligations. I would start our days super early to journal our intentions, breakfast downtown, shopping at the mall, we would go to a live concert on the weekend because music is our thing, one day to just rest and visit the spa, wine tasting, live painting event, visit the aquarium, and a game night inside. I like exploring new places and creating new experiences. Especially anything with crafts or nature.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people and life experiences that have contributed to who I am. I do have to recognize and thank my mom always giving me her personal best, my best friends, Ebony and Brittany, for being my safe spaces, Eboni P for introducing me to sisterhood, Lona for helping me find my light, Keinosha for helping me remove my mask, and most importantly God for constant protection.
