Meet Angelique Janey: Website Developer & Virtual Assistant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelique Janey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angelique, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind Virtual Assistant One was to create a business where I could use my skills to assist entrepreneurs and businesses while creating income to build my nonprofit organization “Our Future Leader’s” (OFL) to help kids create a better financial environment around themselves so that they do not have to learn the hard way as I did when I graduated from High School.
Although I had a job while in Middle School and High School, my mom took all my checks and I only got a portion of my money. When I left High School, I realized I had absolutely no money in my savings. So, while in College I had to continue to work instead of focusing on College. I also realized all the things she did in my name and on my credit, which caused me to have a rough start to finding a place of my own and prevented me from the career I really wanted for myself (because in banking, your credit matters)
I vowed to make sure that any child I run into going forward will never have to go through that because I would teach them budgeting, money skills, and how to protect their credit.
I am grateful for my experiences. They have made me a better woman. As of now, Our Future Leader’s is in beta testing. So, I know everything that I went through was not for me but for the others coming up behind me. My dream is to see OFL’s dreams come true.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Virtual Assistant One is One Business, One Community, under God. We started in 2017 while I was still working at Amegy Bank full-time as a bank teller after my mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. It was not easy to get here but I have come so far. I took the step to remove myself from the corporate world and go full-time into Virtual Assistant One in January of 2019 and truly I am not turning back. I started as a full-service virtual assistant, but over time I realized my specialty with website design and development.
I knew it was time to gather a team when I realized my desire so that they could handle the services I no longer desired. I learned that it is okay to ask for help, you cannot do business alone. The challenges I faced were really procrastination and distractions, I decided to move back to Georgia to be able to focus on my business, while also being closer to my mom to help with her appointments. I handled my challenges by changing my environment, setting a schedule, and making up my mind that my goals are more important than those things keeping me away.
I would like everyone to know that my story is not rare, we all have things we face in life but keep going, keep climbing, and keep growing. You will make it to the otherside and you will be victorious!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Funny thing is, I have lived in Conyers my entire childhood but I have never really partied in the city or state, so I would be going for the first time just like my friend. However, I would take them to Atlanta to the underground mall and some shops around the area. I love visiting the Coca-Cola Factory and hitting some museums.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I first have to shout out God for his part in creating me, directing me on my career path, and providing me with Cassandra Morgan, who introduced me into the virtual assistant world. So my shout-out goes to Cassandra Morgan from CMBS Global. I truly appreciate her taking the time to teach me the basics and always helping to support me when I call.
