We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Gorham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have a strong love for cooking and service. I recognized a gap in the local dining scene. Quick service restaurants are lacking in fresh quality ingredients and service. Also, very few restaurants offer ground turkey options, so I created a menu offering a variety of options made with ground turkey for health benefits as well.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
No, it was not easy and it’s been a long journey. I started as a personal chef in 2005 after completing culinary school, Next was catering and meal prep. Due to high food cost after covid I was forced to make a hard pivot. So I took my top selling meal prep item “the chili” and it cost the least to prepare and created a menu around it. I find it interesting that my signature sandwich “the chopped cheese” is a New York staple sandwich which is where my culinary journey began. I added my own unique twist my using ground turkey and my signature spice blend.

Chop Chili is a culinary venture specializing in innovative dishes centered around the versatile chili. With a vibrant menu featuring a diverse range of chili-infused creations, the restaurant promises to tantalize taste buds with a strong passion for excellent customer service. I tell customers that it’s an extension of my home. I want every customer to feel welcomed and appreciated. I have proud moments when I read reviews complimenting the food and service.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
of course we would kick off the visit at Chop Chili, she would want that.

I love to include a fitness activity so we would climb Stone Mountain or walk the Beltline

Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park, National Center for Civil and Human Rights or Georgia Aquarium

For drinks Jojo’s Beloved Cocktail Lounge and The Patio for the social scene

Kitchens and Kocktails for dinner

Breakfast at Barney’s for brunch

Hopefully there is live music , City Winery or The St James

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother, affectionally known as Che-Che. My signature spice blend which is the flavor of Chop Chili (my restaurant) was created while caring for her. She wouldn’t eat most foods in her final year but she would always eat chili, so I created a low sodium spice blend. Of course, I didn’t know at the time that it would be the signature flavor for my restaurant.
