We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Neal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly, I wanted to create a safe space for fashion inspirers and fashion Disruptors who look like me and who think like me to thrive. I was looking at a Vogue Magazine one day and I was a little annoyed that there were like 80+ pages of Advertisements. I was thinking where is the content! Where are the inspirational stories and editorials. I saw a need for connection and a celebration of creative artistry in fashion. So I wanted to create a platform a publication that put the underdog into the forefront. With my business I just don’t stop at publishing a magazine I also sell merch and recently opened up a photography studio to be able to give people in my community a place to be creative. My thought process was simple, i went into this business scared but confident I could be that person to provide a space and inspire while doing so. I had to ask myself what will I be remembered by. I created a business focusing on my social impact, providing a opportunities and being inspirational. So for me I get to do the two things I live most wardrobe styling and writing combined into one platform. I didn’t get in this business for money it’s bigger than that. Disrupshion is here and it will continue to grow.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The world just needs to know Disrupshion Magazine is here and we are only going to get better with time. As a little girl clipping images from magazines and writing plays and poems lead me to my current journey as a CEO. What sets me a part? Cliche but I’m me and nobody else is me so that’s my power. No one will think like me. Being able to provide a platform for fashion creatives to inspire and disrupt the industry brings me joy. My business provides a Seat at The Table for people who think like me, who want to inspire and create like me. I got to where I am today by working hard and smart. I utilize my internships to the core and I’ve always valued networking across. Sometimes we always try to work with the best right out the gate but it’s even more beautiful when you’re developing your skills with the next person as a team. Not everyone values giving people opportunities and chances but I do, my brand does. I recently launched a coffee table book and that was one of my biggest dreams that I was happy to see come to life! It’s available on Disrupshion Magazine’s website as well as Blurb Bookstore. Running a business is never easy sometimes you have to convince people to believe in your vision and continuously sell yourself. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. A big lesson I’ve learned in my journey is a “No” just means not right now. Being consistent and believing in myself has opened more doors than doubt or fear. So I try to instill that into my interns as well. I just want the world of disruptive and creative thinkers to know they have a safe space with Disrupshion Magazine to publish their art and inspire the world. This platform is here to put a spotlight on your talents it’s up to you to utilize it. Each month I’m still overcoming obstacles with my brand but I’m also breaking barriers and I have no plans on slowing down. So the world just has to be ready.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is tough lol I’m such a homebody usually I’m the friend asking for advice on places where to take them. My hobby is traveling to new cities and accidentally finding cool places. But I guess I would take them where the creatives hangout. I love photo museums and experiences, so opportunities that are interactive would be the move. But a weekend out would include cool interactive photo opportunities, amazing soul food or seafood and so much needed retail therapy.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To my muses first and foremost the models who allowed me to use their talents to pursue my love of fashion. I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t network my butt off. In addition to those I’ve collaborated with (the photographers, makeup artists, hairstylist) I’m thankful for Rachel Johnson and Kesha McLeod who were the first to take me under their wing and allowed me to see a career in celebrity wardrobe styling could be attainable. Also have to give a shout-out to Greg Cally who is always thinking of me and giving me my big costume design/styling opportunity for a feature film. Ofcourse my family for always supporting me and my friends who follow, share and repost my Bussiness posts that does not go unnoticed. I’m just thankful for the people who believe in me and let me do me! That’s pure honey!
