We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Mecole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angel, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
I have many affirmations and quotes thanks to having wise people like my father in my life that probably will always stay with me. However, one that I live by career wise is, ” rejection is God’s way of saying wrong direction!” I have always been a believer that everything, good or bad, happens for a reason. That being said, when you really want something and you work so hard for it and don’t always get it, it can leave you questioning yourself, believing the haters, and can simply put you in a negative space where you feel defeated and want to give up. This was the case for me once upon a time until one day I heard this quote and it really resonated within. Nothing is ever as it seems, in the entertainment industry there is so much rejection it’s not for the weak! So anytime I am working towards a goal, and I don’t get it, or it doesn’t happen when I expect it, I immediately comprehend that it either wasn’t for me or God is still preparing me for something greater. Oftentimes, we don’t receive something because there is something negative on the other end that we cannot see at the moment. What I really like about this quote is it’s motivational in a sense that it encourages me to keep trying and find other avenues to achieve my goals. Revelations can sometimes be the outcome of rejection and you end up on a much easier and more beneficial path!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So if you don’t already know I am a singer/songwriter. I don’t limit myself to a genre because I am eccentric and love all types of music. Honestly I still have a lot of work to do and so much I want to accomplish, but I believe what sets me apart from others is my positive open mind. I am always excited to try new things and learn from others. I am most proud of not giving up no matter what obstacles have been thrown my way. It definitely has not been easy but it has given me thick skin, I would say the way that I have overcome challenges is doing therapy on myself and exploring and understanding what I truly want out of life and staying true to myself. I have learned many lessons on the way but some that really stick out are; not everyone is going to like you and that’s okay, there are many wolves in sheep’s clothing so don’t let your guard down, and always take care of the business before the creative and do your own research! What I would like the world to know about my story is it’s never too late to go after what you truly believe you were designed for. There is a huge difference between dreamers and doers, you don’t need anyone’s blessings to be who you were meant to be. Just take a leap regardless of the outcome for you and you only. Regret is a terrible thing to live with!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So if my bestie was visiting the area and I wanted her to have the best time, I live in Florida so of course we would have to start off everyday at the beach. Maybe visit different beaches everyday (Clearwater, Treasure Island, Apollo, etc.). Of course mimosas every morning. I would take her shopping at Tampa International Mall, afterwards I would take her to the Cheesecake Factory there at the mall. They have the best food, drinks, and desserts! The next day I would take her down to the pier in St. Peterburg, there is so much to do there we would probably stay there all day just admiring the scenery, getting some drinks, taking a walk etc. I have a lot of immediate family in St. Petersburg as well so she could visit with my family members. At the end of the week I would take her down to ybor city, it’s the club/bar strip. take her to eat at 7th Grove. If you notice there is a pattern here, when my bestie Ana vacations two things are a must, you have to have great food, great company, and a beach! I would probably take her jet skiing as well one of the days. I would take her to painting with a twist and top golf one day as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly every encounter with every person that I have had has had some type of influence on me. However, I have to give praise to the most high (God) first and foremost because He created me and blessed me with my talents and strong drive. My whole entire family, and a special shout out to my two little kids Harmony and Josiah, they are truly my biggest fans, Dubplanet media is who I started with and learned a lot from Micheal Parsons, Travis Grace for believing in me and providing opportunities, Writer Sessions of America (WSA), and honestly anyone who truly supports me. I appreciate it more than they will ever know!
