We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Kayondo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angel, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Deciding to always listen to my inner voice. Being a content creator and an entrepreneur, it can become so easy to listen to outside opinion or follow what everybody else is doing. Of course, doing what’s trendy or popular at the moment has really helped my business and content gain attention, but there’s always been a specific goal that I’ve kept in mind. And by doing that, I’ve kept my values in check, my image has stayed a certain way, and I stay focused on what it is I’m aiming towards. I think it’s important to always always listen to yourself above everything else. Because it can get really messy especially on the internet and in the entertainment industry.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a content creator and entrepreneur, I think what sets me apart is having my own hair company and being able to incorporate my colorful but stylish wigs into my content. A lot of people are sometimes afraid to try color but I think it’s fun! And it adds a little more pizzazz into your world lol. Getting to where I am today took a lot of courage and self awareness to see that I wasn’t going to become a professional model signed to an agency booking shows in Paris every year. 😂 That was my absolute dream but after a lot of years I realized that I wanted to be my own boss. That’s why I opened my own hair business. I can’t see myself working for somebody else again and being told what to do. I like to ~collaborate. Being a content creator and entrepreneur gives me the freedom to still work with other brands but in the comfort of my own home and choose which business I want to focus more on, on any given day. I want the world to know that I’m a creative first lol. I feel like I always look so serious and businesslike but really, the creative process is what I enjoy the most.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area I would definitely have a wide range of activities that we would do.
If she came on a Monday, we would go to the Jeju Sauna Spa in Duluth, which is a 24/7 Korean spa then afterwards go to dinner at The Select because it’s a nice, boujiee spot and that’s just who we are lol.
Tuesday, we’d do something chill too like a paint n sip class in the city then later go out for drinks at a local bar.
Wednesday, I’d take her around the city to get to see Piedmont Park, the Centennial Olympic Park and even the Mercedes Benz Stadium. A little sight seeing if you will. Maybe grab some lunch at the Le Bon Cafe.
Thursday, we’d chill. Because I know she’d want to just relax and I would want to stop spending so much.
Friday, is where the turn up begins. We’d go to the Boogalou Lounge in the city, order some food and drinks, then maybe go to the Pasha after.
Saturday, we would do dinner at the STK Steakhouse and go to the Gold Room right after.
Sunday, a little brunch at the Toast on Lenox and then relax and let her get ready for her flight back home 🙌🏾
All of these are places I’ve been to and they’re my absolute favorite. I have a YouTube Channel that focuses specifically on things to do in Atlanta and places to visit. I’ll link the channel at the end of this interview 🙂
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The one person that deserves the biggest shout out and has absolutely gotten me to where I am today is my father. He was the most supportive, reliable and trusting person I knew in my life. If it wasn’t for him I’d probably be making so many mistakes in my 20s right now. But because of him, I was able to get a lot of that out of my system while I was still in high school. He always gave me the freedom and resources to explore who I am/who I wanted to be. It’s like he just had faith that I knew what I was doing and he always told me as long as I work hard, I will be successful. I know for a fact he never knew what I was talking about when I said I wanted to get into YouTube or start my own production company, but he still bought me my first camera along with all the other equipment I needed at the time. I’m just so so grateful that he was my father and I’m super blessed to have been able to really get to experience his love while he was still here.
