We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Chambers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrew, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business came naturally to me. I am a third-generation entrepreneur. My grandfather was a successful farmer and owned multiple markets. My parents were real estate investors and own a chemical consulting business. All of my siblings are or were business owners as well. However, as I considered building my own brand and launching it, there was one thing that was an absolute. My business must bring generational freedom. Although my parents and my grandparents before them were successful at their endeavors, neither were able to build something that was able to last after them. Essentially, they bought jobs that took care of them and their families while they were alive. My goal is to change that narrative. My wife and I, with the help of our team, are trying to build a brand that will last long after us and will help bring freedom for not just us but for our children and their families to come as well. Entrepreneurship is hard work so if you have to build it anyway, you might as well build it to last!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a classically trained chef in the most unpretentious way possible. I believe that understanding and respecting temperature control is the most important tool in my belt. Flavor development and balance follow closely behind. In this moment I am most proud of and excited about Pink’s Barbecue! I respect where we came from, I love where we are, and I am ecstatic about what is to come. The vison that we are pursuing is unlike anything I have seen before in the culinary industry. I am confident that I am walking with the team that will knit it together. Getting to the place I am professionally has not been easy. I wouldn’t suggest it for everyone. However, I wouldn’t change anything. I believe that the years spent pushing other people’s visions gave me valuable knowledge, skills, and abilities. I have a PhD in what not to do. I also have matured into a place of humility that allows me to leverage my strengths and seek help in the areas I am weak. While bootstrapping your way it is imperative that you always remember your “why”! I always remember the generational freedom that I am chasing for my family and our loved ones. The greatest lessons I have learned so far are, your business must be a non-negotiable, you must leverage your strengths and seek help for your areas of weakness, and you must be humble enough to pivot when the business is calling for it. We would want the world to know that when they are supporting Pink’s Barbecue, they are supporting a brand and mission that is resolved to giving back to its local communities and providing memorable experiences for its team and clients.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was coming to town, it would definitely be a week-long foodie crawl. We would indulge in some attractions as well. The attractions that come to mind first are the aquarium, the symphony, Atlanta United, piedmont park, state parks, and the Fox! Now to the exciting part! A foodie crawl in Atlanta has become quite the experience. My epic foodie crawl would feature home cooked meals with friends and family as well as Publix sandwiches and breakfast at Mimi’s Country Kitchen in Peachtree City. As we make our way to Atlanta I’ll start north and then come back south! I would get up early and go explore The Dekalb Farmer’s Market. After that run over to Royal Caribbean Bakery and grab a beef patty for the drive to Buford Highway. We would eat our way around Buford Highway, but the main meal would be at Northern China Eatery! The other musts in the city include Barcelona wine bar, Papi’s, Felini’s on Ponce, and Krogg Street or Ponce City Markets. The other places that must be mentioned are any of the awesome farmers markets around Metro Atlanta. The Hill at Serenbe, Due South in Peachtree City. Lastly, I could not let my best friend leave Atlanta without experiencing brunch at the Four Seasons and dinner at one of Ford Fry’s restaurants! Probably Marcel or one of his newer brands!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I want to shoutout Jesus! Next, I’m going to shoutout Gwen, my wife! This doesn’t happen without her! The next shoutouts go to Titus and Ruby, my babies! They share their mom and dad; they sacrifice more than their tender hearts even know. This is all for them! I want to shoutout my partners and team! I am able to pursue my dream because of their support. I also want to shoutout all of our wonderful customers and customers to come. You are our motivation. Last, shoutout to myself! When everyone is sleeping, I’m not. This is my calling. This is the vison given to me to steward!
