We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Murray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The most important decision I made that contributed to my success was identifying how my products could solve a problem. I create personalized gifts for other small businesses (realtors, wedding planners , etc) to give to their clients. Customers of that business will remember their service and either return and/or referrals to friends and family.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is called Dre’s Design Shop and I create personalized gifts including coffee mugs, wine glasses, tumblers and gift boxes for small businesses and events. What sets me apart from others personalized businesses is I provide gifts for the business vs the client. This will help the small business grow and increase clientele. This may sound cliche but I am just excited and extremely blessed of the growth and courage that is growing with me mentally and spiritually! You have to have the right mindset to start a business. The only way I was able to get to where I am today is having a stable mind, a great support team, and strong spiritual relationship. This is DEFINITELY not easy. The only way I was able to conquer the challenges was to do my OWN research. You can listen to others however, you need to do research and learn on your own, learn from your mistakes, and learn how to stay 3 steps ahead. Always stay prepared! I want the world to know that Dre’s Design Shop is a small business that’s here to help other small business grow! Giving a gift can have a lasting impression on clients and the appreciation alone can bring clients back to a small business . We just want to help support others.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Well! In the lovely City of Charlotte, I would find some type of bar maybe in Plaza Midwood for drinks and then find a karaoke bar. I love laughing, having fun and doing activities that makes me nervous. Then, finding places such as ice cream parlors, restaurants and shops that are only in Charlotte and of course end the weekend with a brunch at a rooftop just for the experience!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course! I want to shoutout a wonderful book called “ The Year of the Yes” by Shonda Rhymes. Definitely gave me the confidence to stop overthinking and just go for it! Also, I want to shout out my friends and family for supporting through the valleys of being a small business owner.
