We had the good fortune of connecting with Ana Bernardino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ana, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose an artistic career because it allows me to express my individuality and creative ideas. I love adding my own spin onto editing photos because everyone has a different perception of the word “beautiful”. Changing an ordinary photo into an entirely different version is exciting. This also allows me to meet different people and hear their stories. I have the opportunity to look for new scenery as well.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am currently working as an Outreach Education Specialist at a local non-profit in Atlanta. I am most proud of the impact that I am able to have on the middle school students that I work with on a daily basis. Ever since I was younger, I told myself, “I would love to work with students and provide mentoring, support with academics, and travel”. My previous job at Girl Scouts was what sparked the, “I want to do more and have a larger impact than only spending two hours once a week with my students”. The transition from working with girls in elementary school to boys and girls in middle school was a whole 180. There are various challenges that we face in a day, however, seeing them grow and teaching them new ways of thinking is what makes this all worthwhile. I overcame the challenges by remembering that this is all a learning opportunity for all parties. Nothing is ever “easy” in life. The only thing we can control is our perception. I want the world to know that I am grateful for all of the opportunities that have been placed in my life. We are blessed in numerous ways; from finding a nickel on the street to being able to see the beauty around us.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Let’s head on over to MamiTaco in Marietta for the best mixed-drink selections. They are amazing! I love to drive to scenic sites, so we’ll head on over to Fort Mountain in Chatsworth and spend the afternoon exploring the area. The next day, we’ll go to Your Third Spot in Atlanta for some food, fun, and games! This local spot is top-tier for a chill/fun night. Imagine it’s a summer day, we’re definitely going to Red Top Mountain and camping out a day or two to enjoy the refreshing water and peaceful area. As you can see, I love being outdoors when the weather is right!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shoutout my amazing partner. He paid attention to the love I have for photography and gifted me my first camera during Christmas. This was a huge gesture and means so much to me. I appreciate him and also my beautiful friends for their unconditional support and encouragement. It takes a village to make dreams come true. They are the best!
