Meet Amrin Kutchhi | Henna Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amrin Kutchhi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amrin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Growing up I always loved art, it was a big part of my life and culture. We were always doing Mehendi or better known as Henna for all our events; whether it was wedding celebrations, baby showers or festivals. I started off designing and practicing on myself. Little did I know, everyone around me started admiring it and asking if I could be a part of their events. As a teenager, i felt it was the best way to start a side hustle.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
– What sets me apart from the rest of the Henna Artists is my drive and willingness to take on new challenges. I’m always looking to create unique designs and incorporating traditional and modern art. – I have to give credit to my wonderful clients for spreading the word. Word of mouth has definitely played a big part in getting me to where I am today.
– Was it easy? Of course not! There aren’t very many people that would trust an adult let alone a teenager to manage and work an event with 20 plus guests. As I grew older, it definitely got easier but there were new challenges that came in the picture. The way I got through this was always saying to myself You Got This! There is Nothing you cannot do! I believe in self motivation and preparing ahead of time. So whether it was a party of 10 people or 80 people, I prepared ahead of time and practiced new designs on myself to brush up.
– I am a firm believer in you learn something new everyday and no lesson is big or small. There are many things I have learned along the way which have brought me to where I am today. This includes the ability to interact with people coming from various backgrounds and cultures, people of all ages, learning new things on social media, new tools that helped me create my identity, patience and above all learning new designs and creating a unique style.
– I would want the world to know that it wasn’t an easy road but I stuck with it and never gave up. I am your go to Henna Artist who uses Organic Homemade Henna because I care a lot about my clients and I want them to have the best! I work with people to bring their vision to life and help make their event the best.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I am not working you can find me checking out a local restaurant, coffee shop, brewery or on a hike. I love going on long walks in the nature and to mom and pop places. Some of my favorite spots include: Old Rope Mill Trail, Powers Island Trail, Copper Coin Coffee, Reformation Brewery, Coconuts Ice Cream and Shaved Ice, Ricos Mex Grill, Sushiology, Harry’s Pizza, hanging out at the Battery and Ponce City Market.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Someone I would like to recognize throughout this process who always supported me and encouraged me would be my parents. My dad always asked me to give him tattoos even when I was just learning and my mom would let me practice on her when I ran out of space on my legs and arms. I couldn’t have done it without their support. My mom also taught me how to make Organic Mehendi (Henna) paste at home.
