We had the good fortune of connecting with Ambria Kaye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ambria, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In 2011, there was a void of quality hair extensions on the market. I remember going to the beauty supply to buy hair that would shed and tangle, realizing it would only last a couple of weeks.  That’s when I decided I wanted to provide a great quality product that would last and at a reasonable price for my clients. By feeling that void it allowed me to start Kaye’s Fab Hair.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I made it my mission to seek out grade A quality hair. Upon opening for business, my goal was to fill that void for women. I wanted to save my clients money and enhance their beauty with quality, long-lasting hair extensions.  Seeing my client feel so beautiful and confident after getting their hair done is our ultimate mission of Kaye’s Fab Hair. During that time, finding hair industry guidance was difficult. I didn’t have a mentor when I first started. Now there is tons of information on how to start a hair business. I was in the dark for a bit before I was able to find the resources to start. And even when I finally got the resources to launch, I had to plan everything out so my launch could be successful. I worked at my hair business for one year by selling hair locally in Atlanta, before I had a website. After a year of planning, I finally took my business online, and the revenue shot through the roof. I was so amazed. I was able to grow kayesfabhair.com from $400 to over $1,000,000 in sales. I was able to reach this goal by using social media, Facebook ads, email campaigns, and influencer marketing. Doing this was not easy.  It took consistency and a deliberate business strategy to bring my dream to life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my best friend comes into town I love to show her a good time. We would probably go walking at the beltline to get a little exercise. We would go out to Ponce City Market for a bite to eat and do some shopping. For nightlife, we would go to the Buckhead Shops for drinks.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Mother is a major inspiration to my career.  Growing up my mom was a hairstylist and later became a master cosmetologist teaching skin care. I was always interested in the beauty industry. With that exposure my love for the beauty started at Young age. I contemplated going to cosmetology school but then decided to go the tradition route and attended and graduated from Clark Atlanta University with a degree in Business Administration.  Bethany Frankel, Kimora Lee Simmons, and Michelle Obama are influential in my growth of being an entrepreneur. These ladies have so many great attributes and have incredible businesses that I admire. I take what I learn from these businesswomen and self-help books that I read and apply them to my own business. Kaye’s Fab Hair wouldn’t be where it is today if it wasn’t for the help of my supporters, family, and friends.   I’m so thankful to be in our 9th year in business.
