We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber White and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to create a clothing line that serves as a bridge between the conservative community and the high-fashion/chic fashion trends. In today’s society, many women are faced with the challenge to pick between the two. But I wanted my business to prove that the two can definitely coexist.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is more than just a boutique or fashion line. It promotes unity, inclusion, and relatability for women from all walks of life. I believe what sets Molded N’ Modesty apart from others is the fact that we are in international sisterhood, in every sense of those words. I am most proud of the relationships and bonds I have built thus far through working my business. I’m most excited to touch the lives of other women. Businesswise, I have gotten to where I am by never giving up. With a small business you will always have highs and lows, but what’s important is to remain consistent and endure through those waves of life. It was not easy at all, and still to this day it is not easy. I have had to overcome personal obstacles such as procrastination, lack of self-discipline, financial setbacks, and mental self-doubt. I have also had to overcome social obstacles when it comes to those who doubted that the world of conservatory fashion and chic fashion could co-exist. But along the way I have learned to tune out those external AND internal negative thoughts. I have learned that when you have hard-work, determination, and grit at your core, those elements will propel your business to succeed. I want the world to know that my brand is a representation of me, I have walked on my own journey of life that has been filled with successes and disappointments. But I am still rising, I am still fighting, and I am still succeeding. Molded N’ Modesty represents and embodies those very things as well.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Atlanta because that is my home-away-from-home, however I am currently located in NYC. So if my best friend was visiting the area I would definitely take them to Soho. Soho has the cutest “Mom and Pop” restaurants and shops. I would also take them to Midtown, home to the most chic rooftops with jaw-dropping views of the city. I definitely think that the most exciting places to check out are the art exhibits, rooftop bars, and “hole-in-the-wall” small businesses throughout the city. The glitz and glam of New York City is what attracts people, but the small family-run businesses are what breathes life into this city!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout out to my very supportive family. I come from a family of entrepreneurs, who have pushed me to continue building my small business and pursuing my dreams no matter how crazy they have been! Thank you Mom, Dad, Andre, Nikki, Lauren, Devin, and Reagan. Each one of you have been a driving force behind my success at some point on the journey & I am forever grateful. I also want to acknowledge my college professor, Professor Cassiola at Nassau College in Westbury, New York. You taught me the ropes and acted as a mother figure as I navigated my way through college, and as I started and now continue my journey through the fashion industry. I am forever grateful for your influence and mentoring through the years !
