We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Perryman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is “when life deals you lemons make lemonade”. Growing up my dad used to say it to me all the time and it wasn’t until he passed away and i got older that it dawned on me what it really meant.

What it means to me is a few things: First it makes me realize that life is always changing and a lot of times those changes are out of our control. Second it makes me stop and tell myself instead of getting mad and frustrated when situations don’t go my way, think of ways to make it positive or ways to fix it or even ways to make the best of what you have.

What I love about this quote is pretty simple. This quote inspires me to never give up and to stay motivated. It also reminds me that I am strong enough and capable to deal with anything in life that is thrown my way rather it’s good or bad , I will always push through and come out on top.

What should our readers know about your business?
I have been doing hair since I was a kid. I started to fall in love with doing hair at the age of 15. I was everyone’s braider lol.

My business is “ Designs by Cashell”. Cashell is actually my middle name. I specialize in natural hair, weaves, braids and more. I also make custom wigs. I have an online beauty store “Beautybycashe.com” Where I sell products like lashes , bundles & my wigs.

Starting my business was definitely not easy . When I first moved to Atlanta I did a lot of assisting in salons to try to get my foot in the door to meet new people and to establish a clientele. My goal was to attain my license under the owner of the first salon that I was working in but that never happened. I did learn a lot of things at this particular salon that helped me be the stylist that I am today. Although it was not the best experience , For that I am grateful.

My second job was in Kellon Deryck’s salon . I worked as his assistant. There, They pushed me to just go ahead and go to Hair school and to get it out the way! So I continued to bartended full-time, went to Hair school and took clients as I could in between time.

I honestly feel like my business started to flourish when I took a leap of faith and got my first salon suite in 2019 while I was finishing up hair school. I graduated March of 2020. Unfortunately Covid hit in 2020. I was just getting into the swing of things & i had to close down shop. That put a halt on my business tremendously. I had to move all of my Equipment in to my one bedroom apartment. In August of 2020 I decided to get my LLC and i worked from home for a year , until I saved up enough money. Now fast forward, January 2022 I opened up another salon suite and everything is coming back along. I love being in another space.

Lessons that I have learned along the way is that it takes a lot of sacrifice and discipline to run your own business. there are definitely a lot of ups and downs but you have to stay at it and stay persistent. Things can be stressful but in the end it always feels good when you accomplish your goals .always write everything down, that is definitely something that has helped me having a checklist. also try to work on one task at a time ,in the beginning that was my problem , I was focused on too many different things at one time , but once I went in order on my checklist. I begin to get things done faster and easier.

I am most proud of continuing to stay motivated and never giving up because so many times I wanted to just quit. I’ve had so many good experiences and I’ve met so many people in my craft of doing hair. The most memorable is when I got to work on set back stage at the “urban one honors music awards in 2021 and when I got to be the lead hairstylist in the “ Wide Open Andre Rison story that will be out in Theaters this June 2022. I love working on set and can’t wait to do more work behind the scenes on different sets.

I want the world to know that I strive to always improve . there’s always room for improvement & my goal is for my clientele to have the best experience. I love working with natural hair . I love making people feel naturally beautiful . so many stylist now a days who don’t shampoo hair, who come with all these rules and regulations & the customer service is horrible . I could go on and on and on about the horror stories that clients tell me. I take one client at a time so that I can make sure each client’s need is met and that they walk out of my chair with a good experience feeling beautiful! I am a loving caring passionate fun silly person! My clients can talk to me about anything. Fun fact I have my bachelors degree in psychology so sometimes I love being the therapist to my clients lol! All in all my first priority is healthy hair. I just love seeing everybody happy smiling and feeling great about themselves when they leave my chair!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Lucky for me one of my best friends actually lives here in Atlanta. We all know Atlanta always has something going on but we love to eat and we love some good R&B music! 90s R&B music is really our favorite. we try to find places that consist of the two , good food and good 90s R&B lol. We actually just went to the R&B soul picnic at Piedmont and literally had the best time ever. I love festivals! I bartend on the weekends at “Lyfe ATL” , so that’s definitely always a move. Since I do work in the club on the weekends , I don’t particularly like to go to clubs a lot on my off days. “Aura” on R&B Mondays is actually currently one of our fav places to go, it’s definitely a vibe.

Im a seafood lover, So I literally could eat seafood every day. Me and my Bestie love oysters, so my favorite spot for oysters I would recommend “C&S Oysters Bar”. They literally have the best oysters in the city . I go every Thursday for their Oyster special lol!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out my beautiful mother aka my superwoman. Growing up in my mothers salon inspired me one day to have my own. I even watched her give up her salon & become the amazing nurse she is today. She pretty much does whatever she sets her mind to lol. I want to thank my mother for always believing in me and always pushing me to do whatever i set my mind to! she is my biggest cheerleader & truly my biggest supporter & best friend! I get my hustle, motivation & drive from her! I love you mommy! Thank you! My family, friends and amazing clients also keep me going I am very grateful for them as well!
