We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Gold and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I have learned how to be flexible, especially the past few years. In the entertainment industry, specifically, there is no clear cut path to success. Sometimes you have to take six months off and get a “real job” because life happens and you do what you have to do; Other times the funds (and free time) is flowing and you’re able to focus solely on your artistic career. The tricky part is when both are happening simultaneously. At this particular point in my life, balancing a master’s program, launching my own business, and still having time for myself has, honestly, not been too difficult. I think that’s because I’m having fun with what I do. I’m more motivated to get school work done because I use those skills in my business, so then I have more free time to hang out, travel, and do other things that I love to do.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In August of 2017, I earned my bachelor’s degree in music industry/ management at Georgia State University. Since then, I have worked diligently to earn the titles of consultant, A&R, and manager to independent recording artists and industry executives. I take much pride in my networking skills and my ability to connect with people in all aspects of the music industry.

Throughout my tenure at Georgia State, I developed a familiarity with all kinds of music, including classical, alternative rock, rhythm & blues, and hip-hop. I excelled in several internships, with concentrations in marketing/management.

Currently, I freelance and help curate and manage digital media content, for both local and national independent artists’ social media accounts, including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and LinkedIn. I also assist in organizing and executing promotional materials and projects for events. Amongst these services, artist and label consulting & management is my specialty. In spring of 2020, I was accepted into a marketing program at my alma mater, Georgia State University, where I am currently completing a master’s degree, to be conferred in August 2021.

Most of the challenges I face are similar to those that entrepreneurs in the entertainment industry also face. Lack of support is the most challenging for me, but I overcome it every day that I decided to continue pursuing my passion.

So although others believe their success should never be defined by the success of those around them, I truly believe teamwork makes the dream work. If my vision matches with the artist’s dream and I do my job to its fullest extent, everybody wins and the dream becomes a reality. I realize that hard work and dedication is the only thing that will get me to the top, so I’m here to help other creatives do the same.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Where do we begin?! Atlanta’s most well-known attractions are amazing, but it’s hidden gems make you never want to leave. As far as food options, Atlanta has a flavor for everyone. I recommend Pit Boss BBQ in College Park if you’re a BBQ enthusiast like me; Slutty Vegan is the best fast-food vegan eats you’ll ever have; and for a more sophisticated fare, Sotto Sotto in Inman Park offers an incomparable risotto inspired by 16th century Italian recipes.
Atlanta also offers some of the best hangouts in the region. The Painted Pin in Buckhead is a dope evening hangout for friends to sip really good drinks and play life-size Jenga; The Battery at Truist Park is a cool Saturday meetup to catch a Braves baseball game then celebrate the win with specially crafted cocktails; and, of course, Ponce City Market is a must-visit.
One other gem that is special to Atlanta is the Beltline. The 33-mile trail loops around the best parts of the city and showcases its vast and intriguing culture. You could spend a day or two hiking each part of the Beltline and discover something cool, new, and exciting around the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
On September 7, 2020, I crossed and became a founding member of Kappa Theta Lambda INC, a non-collegiate entrepreneurial sorority. We, Outstanding Ladies with Attitude, stand to inspire, support, and empower women from all walks of life to pursue and exceed their entrepreneurial goals. I’m so beyond blessed to have joined a sisterhood that will not only support my business, but also empower me as a woman for a lifetime!

And, most importantly, all credit belongs to GOD! As the head of my life, I would not be where I am today without His continued favor and blessings over me.
