We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Barnes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
My end goal is to be a professional actress, assistant director and entrepreneur for my spa business. I want to be either in L..A. or California but to be honest, where ever God guides me, I am perfectly happy. I know that right now my main focus is improving myself so that I can be the best that I can be. I want to make sure that everything is flowing and I am making more then enough income to be able to provide for myself and my family.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What set me apart from everyone is that I am a medical worker and a single mother who barely gets any rest. I am balancing a job and several other careers all in one and do not intend on stopping anytime soon. I strive on pushing myself to succeed. I am proud that I was able to attend college, graduate and then go after what I love the most. I have 30 films under my belt and I am currently working with Jake Robinson on a film called Strange Fruit in which we will be casting sometime in the future and Bill Howard with The Great Dismal. I got to where I am by the grace of God. At times I felt lost, confused and felt like giving up but I did not quit. It was not easy and took me 3 1/2 years to get to where I am and I still feel like I got ways go. Its all hard work and in this industry you have to have thick skin. Dealing with people who do not support you is the toughest. They rather be out there praising these top celebrities then the people who are from their area or the people who are trying. I ran across perverts and unprofessional people in this industry and people who are full of themselves. I ran across con artists and people who think they are better than everyone else because they got a little clout. It is all sickening and I do not ever want to become anyone like that because those people never last long. I am thankful to those who gave me an opportunity or worked with me because the ones who look down on us, be the main ones looking crazy when we come out on top. I want the world to know that this is me and this is who I am. I can only be me. I suffer from depression and sometimes I lose focus but one thing about me, I have faith that things will get better. Currently preparing myself to go to New York soon to learn and study and do little skits with Comedian Harry O for the fun of it. I try to get a little fun time in all of my work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend visits the area, more then likely we would go for drinks or to a bar. The funny thing is, I have no exact place I would go to because I normally wait til the last minute before picking a place out. I just go with the flow. It is crazy because I barely go out now. All I do is work, work, and work. If I am not doing auditions, I am on set working. In my viewpoint, I love going to the mountains or going to a fun park. So I would suggest going to Stone Mountain. I would also suggest the Atlanta Botanical Garden which is a nice place to visit if I had to pick a place. Its beautiful and the scenery is an absolutely breathtaking. I would highly recommend. I would also suggest her to go with me to the mall to go shopping but other then that I barely go out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
